The newspaper quotes sources close to the hospital, which it does not identify, as saying the situation has not changed since the report was submitted in the early 1950s. The report was discovered, the newspaper says, following assertions Monday before - the legislature's select committee on youth that retarded children in hospital schools were put to work in certain janitorial and demestic hospital jobs. Health Minister Matthew Dy- mond said after the brief was submitted to the committee that m patient was put to work for any other than therapeutic rea- sons in any Ontario hospital. Dr. Dymond said that while some patients are given work as part of their treatment, 'there is adequate staff at the Onta- rio hospitals." The Globe and Mail says the report claimed patients worked in the beauty parlor, carpentry shop, garden, kitchen, laundry, mattress and upholstery shop and as ward cleaners and nurses' aides.
