He does so, in the present case, from the stand- point of a defender (West). If we study the West hand by itself, without reference to the bidding, it would be somewhat optimistic to expect to take four tricks against a spade game voluntarily undertaken by North South. However, in the light of the bidding, particularly the dia- mond response by North and the diamond raise by South, West has every right to look forward to defeating the contract. He can reasonably assume that North-South have a total of seven or eight diamonds and WGR-TV Channel 2--Buffalo TUESDAY EVE. 5:00 P.M. 6--Generation li--Family Theatre 7---Peyton 6-3--Front 8--Syperman 7--The Early Show $3--Fireball XL--5 4--Five O'Clock Show 2--Woody Woodpecker 5:30 P.M. 6~--Music Hop 3--Aquanauts 1, 69----OMer, 2--Taies of Wells Fargo 4:00 P.M, 4--Generation 2--Today, 1964 6:15 P.M. 4~--Headline News Chuck Healy 6:30 PLM. -9-6-4--News; Weather. MOLNER, MD. Dear Dr. Molner: A_ recent column included a letter from a reader who was concerned over having a stapes operation Two years ago I was faced with a similar decision. The thought of ear surgery fright- ened me and | was four months pregnant. My obstetrician. felt it was all right to go ahead The plan was to remove the stapes bone and replace it with wire. I went to the hospital the night before. Drops were put in my ear and a dressing placed over it. Next morning I was given an injection to make me _ relax When taken. to the operating room 1 was a bit woozy: but fully aware of what was going on The doctor and nurse ex plained the why and wherefore of each thing they did. As the doctor chipped the stapes bone the sensation was about like having a_ radiator 'pounding There was a clock and from time to time I. would open m3 eyes to see it. The doctor said the operation would-take one t« | two hours. I took an hour an 45 minutes.
