A brother, Ronald, of Bethel, also survives. CHARLES A. INNES Charles A. Innes, 69, of 476 Lowell avenue, a retired sales manager with the H. J. Heinz Company, died in Oshawa Gen- eral Hospital Thursday after a short illness. He moved to St. John's, Nfid., from Moncton, N.B., in 1949 and spent 21 years there before retiring and coming to Oshawa. Mr. Innes was born May 28, 1895 in Picton, N.S. and was the son of the late Rodney Innes and Jean Clarke. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Osh- awa and the Rotary Club in St. John's. He was a naval veteran of the First World War. He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Budd, two sons, Austin of St. John's and Karl of Oshawa and one daugh- ter, Mrs. R. Louttit (Laura Lou) of Montreal. Also, two sisters, Mrs. J. Mackenzie (Jean) of Nelson, B.C.; Mrs. A. Groat, 76, of RR 3, Oshawa, a' member of one of the Breoklin district's eer families, died today in Oshawa v.}General Hospital. He lived his entire life on the farm his grandfather, John Groat, cleared. Mr. Groat was the son of the fate Mr. and Mrs. Charles Groat. He married the former Reta Dennis in 1917 in Oshawa. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Whitby and the Ontario Hog Producers' As- sociation. Mr. Groat had been unable to work for the last three years. He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mrs. E. La- violette (Florence) of Colum- bus; Mrs. M. Stepheson (Mar-/v: jory) of Oshawa; Mrs. R. Mc- Donald (Doreen) of Frankford, and Mrs. G. ANNA RAUSA Mrs, Anna Rausa, 86, died in Oshawa General Hospital Thurs- day following a short serious illness. She had lived with her daughter -in-law, Mrs. Annie, Rausa, 63 Drew street. The former Anna Vajda, she was born Jan. 19, 1878, in Plie- sovce, Czechoslovakia and was the daughter of the late Jan and Maria. Vajda. She came to Canada in 1937 and lived in the Oshawa district since then except for five years in Leamington. Mrs. Rausa was predeceased by her husband, Steve, many years ago in Czechoslovakia and her son, Steve, in 1943. She is survivel by a grand- daughter, Mrs. John Macko (Ann) of Lakeworth, Fla, and two great - grandchildren, Ann and Billy Cincurak of Highgate, Ont. Rev. P. F. JAMES TORONTO Thomas B. James, honorary chairman of the board of J. F. Hartz Co. ,|Ltd., died Wednesday at his home on Forest Hill road, where he had lived since 1912. He was a member of |96 Mr. James, who had helped bring the Hartz company to Canada from Detroit in 1900, had served in the hospital and physicians supply industry for 70 years until two years ago. Born and educated in. Osh- awa, he first worked as a clerk in an Oshawa aaa store in 1884. He later cehgial from the Ontario College of Phar- macy, and in 1896 joined the J. F. Hartz organization as representative in Canada, He became manager when the company was established in Canada, and in 1920 he and three other Canadians bought lout the U.S. owners. He was president for many years be- fore becoming board chair- man. Mr. James was a past presi- dent of the Downtown Kiwanis Club, an active member of the Geor- ~~ Masonic Lodge of Perfec- ion, Rose Croix and Consistory, He was « life member of Rosedale Golf Club, the Gra- nite Club and the Royal Cana- dian Yacht Club. Former chief justice J. ©. Me- Ruer, the commissioner, said Thursday he will accept both oral and written presentations at the public sessions, McRuer has scheduled, hearings in. Ottawa, Kingston, | Windsor, London and Hamilton. Others are to take place in Sud- bury and Port Arthur. The royal commission was set by Premier Robarts earlier this year to consider the whole field of human rights in Ontario and any possible infringement on civil liberties by acts of the legislature or other administra- tive bodies. The broad terms of reference for the commission wilt allow Mr. McRuer to pursue the idea of an ombudsman for Ontario, a proyincia] bill of rights, 4 public defender, plus the whole area of the administration of justice.
