Delegates To World Conference Entrance Local Soroptomist Club Mrs. Olive Petley, Miss Madeline Kelly and Mrs. Jules ve a most interesting and enlightening talk on the World Conference of Soroptim- ist Clubs, which they attend. ed in Lausanne, Switzerland, during the past summer at the November dinner meeting of the Soroptomist Club of Osh- awa, held in the Corvair Room of the Hotel Genosha, recently. Delegates from more, than 30 countries were present at the conference and shared the world-wide friendship of the or- ganization. Miss Kelly gave a vivid de- scription of their trip through England, Ireland and Scotland, en route to the conference. At each stopping place, members of the Soroptomist Clubs enter- tained them royally and the Osh- awa members heard glowing words of praise for the hospital- ity and friendship extended to their delegates. During the journey, members were told, all the travellers were treated as personal friends by the bus driver and his wife and the latter composed a de- lightful poem in their honor. Miss Jenny Pringle read the poem, which was much enjoyed. Assisted by Mrs. Perrault, who showed a variety of slides, Miss Kelly and Mrs. Petley gave a delightful account of the annual convention, which was held at the Palais de Beaulieu. A highlight of the affair was the choir which consisted of one member from each country. This choir saluted each country by a) song in its own native tongue. Mrs. Petley said that it was fascinating to see Eastern dress mingling with Western and all singing 'Home on the Range" in English. A special feature of the con- breath-taking trip on Lake Gen- eva and the farewell banquet, which was attended by over 2000 members. The delegates told the Osh- awa members that their finest impressions were of the hospital- ity extended to them on all sides. and of the tremendous feeling of the friendship of Sor- optomism extending to every corner of the world. Mrs. Walter Bestwick presid- ed for the meeting and apprecia- tion was expressed by the mem- bers for such an enjoyable hour of entertainment.
