"Bill" Davidson has spent more than a quarter century in municipal service and has gain- ed the respect of many local citi- zens. Mr. Davidson was born in Guelph in 1889 attended Guelph public schools, and the Guelph Agricultural College. RESIDENT SINCE 1918 He came to Whitby in Novem- ber 1918 and started an automo- bile business. ; In 1927 he formed a limited company under the name of Whitby Motors and operated it under the name of Whitby Motors and operated it until his retirement in October, 1962. He began ais political career in 1923 when he was elected to town council under the lead- ership of R. N. Bassett. He acted as deputy reeve for the town and sat on county coun- cil for two years. MAYOR IN 1946 In 1946 he was elected Mayor of Whitby and filled that post for the next three years. He was again elected to coun- cil-in 1960 and has as a town councillor ever since, His record for municipal ser- vice totals more than 25 years in the posts of councillor, deputy reeve and mayor He was appointed to the Li- brary Board in 1951 and served the board for eight years as chairman PETER PERRY AWARD In 1958 as tribute to his out- To Present served standing service to the town he was awarded the Peter Perry Award by the late Judge John E. He is a past president of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce and has served on the executive of charitable organizations too numerous to mention. ACTIVE IN CHURCH He is active in church work, an elder of St. Mark's United Church and has served on the board of ushers for 25 years, Due to a recent illness he is retiring on Dec. 31 and will have to retire from many or- ganizations including his post as chairman of the Whitby Cancer Society. Harding, 17, 1387 Fordon ave- nue, Bay Ridges, appeared be- fore Magistrate Harry Jermyn and pleaded guilty to the charge of attempted theft. Harding was caught with two other youths near a Pickering Township farmer's gasoline shed in the early hours of Nov. 14.
