A TREMENDOUSLY OUTSTANDING Rampaging Bear | Bagged On Farm © DUTTON, Ont. (CP)--A black bear, sought throughout the southwestern part of Middlesex | and Elgin counties in recent) months by farmers concerned that it might attack people and 39° CONTINENTAL livestock, was shot to death Tuesday on farmland here. p , | about 22 miles southwest of : ee ss | London. 4 ; The bear is believed to be) . one which broke out of captivity on the farm of John Robinson | at Mt. Brydges, about 20 miles north of here, a year ago. Mr, Robinson's bear was only | four months old when it es-| caped but area game warden) D. C. Martin said he believes. the one shot Tuesday by farm- ers J. C. Miller and Donald B. Lilley, both of Dutton, is the same beast.' It weighed about | 175 pounds, Mr. Martin . esti- | mated. "The bear had a leather col- Jar around its neck. The animal had certainly been-in captiv- ity," Mr. Martin said. He added that the collar was very tight and would probably have killed the bear within about a month. The collar was so tight the beast was probably in pain and might have attacked someone, he said. Mr. Miller saw the bear run- ning across a field on his farm| and called Mr. Lilley to bring | his hound pack. They shot. the Gear after the hounds drove it trom a wooded area. j With superb quality emooth top mattress. Complete with headboards ond legs.
