Taylor, who had pitched a sensational one- hitter, to blank it Park 2-0 on Monday night, in the third game, clin the title for Storie Park boys with 4 well- pitched four-hitter. SPORTS MENU By Geo. H. Campbell SPORTS EDITOR 'Everything From Soup To Nuts' STORIE PARK won the Oshawa*Minor Softball Associa- tion's Midget League championship last night, when they de- feated Connaught Park 7-2 at Alexandra Park. This was the fourth game of the series and gave Storie Park the title, three- games-to-one. Last year the Storie Park lads qualified for OASA play and went right to the suffering elimination. Then they came back the same week and lost their 'City Midget Crown' to Fernhill Park, in the Southern Ontario finals before Storie Park made their big bid for the championship in the first inning. With one out, E. Wright singled and was forced by an. Then with two out, Taylor singled, Glecoff doubl- ed, G. Wright drew a walk and Cameron tripled, scoring on Locke's single, for five-straight tallies, Hough, who started for Con-| 4 naught, gave way to John Dick in this first inning and he did a fine job for the next three in- nings. Locke opened the sixth with a walk, advanced on Brett's sacrifice and another by Solomon, then scored on E. Wright's double, to give Storie Park a-6-0 lead at the time. Storie Park made it 7-0 be- fore Connaught got on the score- board, when they pushed over their final tally im the top of the 7th inning. Glecoff singled with one out and scored, after two out, on a double by Cameron. Cameron, with a_ triple, double and bunt, was the big hitter for the winners, with Logeman, Glecoff and Locke each having two hits. McGahey had two of his team's four safe- ies. The Oshawa men are Grant O'Reilly, feather weight, Pat O'Conner, welter weight, Jack One thing Oshawa Generals lacked last season in the OHA Jr. A League last season was a solid-hitting unit, but this year they seem to have found the answer, Last night in Toronto, they continued their impressive ex- hibition showirg and took a 5-3 victory over Toronto Marlboros, defending Memorial Cup win- ners, It was the third win in four pre-season contests for Gen- erals, including two over Marl- boros, who are winless in three ames. Generals get a chance to add to that total tonight when they play Clinton Comets -- U.S. Eastern Hockey League Champions -- at the Bowman- ville Arena, Game time is 8 p.m, The youthful Generals will face such stars as _playing- coach Benny Woit, Hec La- londe, Orval Tessier, Skippy Burchell and two former Whitby Dunlops, Pete Babando and Jack Kane. This season, they again qualified for OASA play but lost out to the Peterborough Midgets -- who are currently headed for the All-Ontario finals, Congra- tulations are due coach Jack Logeman and manager Jack Cameron on steering their Midget team to the league title. Next year it's expected most of these boys will be together again, as an entry in the Juvenile ranks. Meanwhile, the Storie Park Neighbourhood Assoc. members no doubt are plan- ning some sort of recognition for their. two championship teams. Coach George DeMille's Storie Park lads won the Kiwanis Bantam League title this year, which gives Storie Park a clean sweep of the Oshawa Minor Softball Associa- tion's two championships. i x x x x UNLESS THE WEATHERMAN spoils things, the first game of the 1964 World Series will be history, by the time most of our readers see this. Perfect weather has been predicted for today's opener. Yankees are 17-to-10 favorites to take the series and 13-to-10 to cop today's opening game. Yogi Berra will send his World Series veteran Whitey Ford to the mound while Cardinals are also going with a southpaw, the youthful Ray Sadecki, who won 20 games this semester. Gate receipts and the player's pool will be:smaller this year -- St. Louis can only accommodate 32,000 fans. Cards and Yankees have met in the classic four times previously -- each having won twice. The way the "experts" have it figured out -- it's a ease of Yankee power plus five-straight years of World Series experience, against the speed and enthusiasm of the Cardinals -- who boast a few hitters themselves. At this distance, it would appear Cards have the better all-raend team for hitting but lack the home-run potential. It remains to be seen if Yankees' vaunted pitching staff can trump the Cards' attack, Our pick -- Yankees, in six games! x x x x OFF THE CUFF: Ottawa Rough Riders didn't do much in the way of offensive skill in the mid-portions of last night's game but they certainly gave the ride in the final quarter . .
