BIBLE LESSON Faith Shown Keystone Of Israel Patriarchs By R. H. RAMSEY About 14 more years have elapsed in the life of Samuel at the time of his farewell address to his people. While Samuel will be a participant in the early, tragic exploits of Saul, this, as far as we know, is the last time he addresses the entire nation. Samuel opens the address) with a short review of his years as Israel's judge, stressing the honesty. of his administration and his righteousness. This is not egotism on Samuel's part; it is a mere statement of fact. Commonly, other judges used their position to exploit the people and increase their own personal wealth. This was not true in Samuel's case, He lived much too close to God to be overly concerned with self. After reviewing his own life in the midst of his people, Sam- uel recalls to their minds some of the great acts of God in their past history. He mentions the exodus as a great manifestation; of love on the part of the Eter- nal God. Using this as a basis, Samuel to develop an un- answerable reason for Israel's zealous obedience to the will of God, Idolatry, immorality, shame- ful wickedness and open rebel- Hion against the government of the invisible King were, in every case, punished with the withdrawal of the divine protec- tion and the giving of the people into the hands of strange, hos- tile nations. Despite Israel's repeated, rebellion against the telling them of God's mercy and promising to pray them, but warns them that if, after all, they still insist on dis- obeying God, then they will be consumed, theme of the verses from He- brews selected for our lesson.
