WHITBY And DISTRICT Whitby Bureau Office 111 Dundas St. West Manager John Gault THE LAST TRIAL -- ITS OFFICERS The historic walls of Ontario County's 112year-old Court- house echoed with the admin- istration of justice for the last time yesterday. Its antique, warm, movielike atmosphere will record no more the an- guish and the drama and the triumphs it has known 60 often and so long. Never once in its history, so far as -offi- cials ean recall, has the press camera ever desecrated the confines of the law with court in session or recess. In order to maintain this dignity, the four law officials involved in the last criminal case retired to the vast law library to be photographed. Seated are County Court Judge Alex Hal! and County Sheriff, Colonel Arthur Welch. Behind them are Crown Attorney Bruce Affleck and Deputy-Sheriff Morley Bain. Judge Hall has THE OSHAWA TIMES, Wednesday, September 9, 1964 5 Tel, 668-3703 For New Whitby's award-winning Brass new uniforms. Some $3,000 is needed to foot the cost of the 35 to 40 uni- forms needed for the Band members And the Band is de- termined to raise all the money' themselves. "We do not intend to go to the Town Council and ask them for the money", Band leader Eric Clarke said yesterday. 'We would like to do this ourselves". The Band's present uniforms are about 10 years old and the need for a new set is becom- ing urgent. A variety of money spinning ventures have been organized to gather the needed $3,000. Regular Bingo sessions are to be started at Club Bayview. Also visits are to be paid to the town by other Ontario bands for concerts. "We raised the money to buy the last lot of uniforms", Eric Clarke said, "and we intend to do it again. This is the case with the Brooklin Sr. Lacrosse and their afch-rivals the Brampton Seal- tests. The Brampton team won their second game in a row over the pride of Ontario County, this time right in the Brooklin arena' Jast hight by a mighty close 6-5 score. Brooklin led the series at one time 3-0 and were odds-on favorites to cop the series in four, (or as this writer had said, five) games. Now the locals have to travel to Bramp- ton on Thursday night in search of one big win, or come back to the confines of the local ice palladium for "It." In last night's game it was Jack Madgett with two goals, Castator, Jim _ Richardson, McCauley and Spicer with one goal each for the hungry Bramp- ton team. For the local "Good Guys" it was the old work horse of the defence crew, Ken Ruttan with two goals and singles to Don Bruce, captain Glen Lotton and the ever-dang- erous Grant Heffernan. The fans turned out in goodly numbers last night, despite dirty 'weather to see what we thought would be the last game of Sr. Lacrosse in Brooklin this year. (It could be if our fellows get off their seats and run on Thursday night.) They saw their heroes build up a 2-0 lead in.the first period on goals by Lotton and Ruttan and thought that this was it. Many of the fans remarked to this writer hat we had about called the shot as we walked to the pop booth at the end of the first. The second period was an- other thing, however. The Brampton team were, as we have said several times before, very hungry. With the Juniors |Thompson in the visitor's cage. | sparking their running attack and the hard rock defence work of fellows like Thompson, Wan- less and Ford working to almost airtight perfection it was a rough road -to the Brampton) goal. As a result the Brampton team with the ever-dangeruus Madgett to the fore, tied the score by the 9.12 mark and a huge groan wént up from the Second Period 3. Brampton; Madgett (Arthurs) .. 7. 4. How- ever, Grant Heffernan got the fans off their hands at the 13.28 mark as he scored while many of the Brampton fans shouted that he was in the crease. (He was, but was shoved by Naylor in the process of scoring the goal.) From here in the tide took a bad dip and Brooklin should 'better have stood~ in bed." Castator, Richardson and McCauley followed in that order to give the Brampton team a 5-3 lead as the very dejected Brookliners trotted off . the floor at the end of 40 minutes of grueling action. | In the third period the Brook-| lin lads gave it that old college/ try and did manage to tie the| score as Bruce and Ruttan beat ANY SUNNY DAY Check the accuracy of VICTORIA and GREY TRUST WHITBY 308 DUNDAS STREET W.
