WHITBY And DISTRICT Manager: John Gavit Whitby Bureau Office: 111 Dundas St. West Tel. 668-3703 Whitby Couple Wed In June Ceremony If you want to take a cool dip in the lake -- don't -- not for a day or so anyway. Tons of foul-smelling weed washed up on the shore recently and the Town's Works Department SARGASSO OF have been working to clean it up. Employing a bull dozer and a large chunk of muscle power a crew of Works De- partment employees are faced with the monumental task of LAKE ONTARIO scraping several hundred yards of beach. This will be the first Sat. , urday night that there has not been action at the local arena since May 23. Instead the Brook- lin team will be on the road as they travel to Huntsville to tangle with the Hawks. On Wednesday night of this week the Brooklin team handed the resort area team an 8-1 set- back as they all but handcuffed their goal scorers. Conlin got the lone goal of the game for the visitors at the 25 - second mark of the opening period. The Brooklin team have been going great guns of late and lead the ledgue by six points. They have won their last five in a row, and will bz trying to make it six straight tonight. Brooklin has made a slight change in their coaching setup. Play: coach Ken Crawford along with manager Morton felt they were not getting just that little bit extra out of the fel- _ lows that they might be. So they' decided to bring in William Vi- pond who is the president of the ing from the bench during the games. Coach Crawford still handles the team in practices. This once again proves the har- mony there is on the local team and their executive. Vipond's many years of experience along with his vast knowledge of the game will greatly help the local cause, The Brooklin team are with- out a doubt the most evenly bal- anced team in the league. Every line they put out there is cap- able of busting the olq ball game wide open. Granted, there are a few fellows who are more closely watched than others but that happens with any team in the league. The next home game for the Brooklin team will be one week from tonight, when the Peter- borough Speedy Erns will be the visitors. We understand that coach Cy Coombes of the Peter- borough team is still mighty burned up about the way he got treated here in the last game. It should"make for the biggest crowd of the season when the Erns make their final appear- ance of the schedule at the local local club to assist in the coach- rink, Miss Greta Barker have re- Mrs. Ted Jeffreys, is celebrat- ing her seventh birthday Sun- day, July 19.
