Oshawa bands scheduled to take part are: The Oshawa Sea Cadet Band, the Red Marines, Sons of Ulster Flute Band, Cale- donia Pipe Band and the band from the Boys' Training School at Bowmanville. The band from HMCS York in Toronto will lead the parade. The band of the Ontario Regiment, will take part in the festivities at Alex- andra Park. The HMCS York Band was founded in 1952 by W. Steel, a cor-missioned officer and was drawn from the nucleus of men from the disbanded Queen's York Rangers, a militia unit. In 1954 Commander R. H, Plun- kett became bandmaster and ell holds the position. Since 1952 the band has work- ed to continue the excellent tra- dition set during the war. As a result its concert and parade schedule becomes more demand- ing. In addition to its many mili- tary and civilian parades, the band has performed a series of concerts at schools, hospitals, plazas and parks and at the CNE In June of last year the band was awarded the Efficiency Trophy as the best naval re- serve band in Canada. The award was presented on the basis of concert performance and parade technique.
