BIBLE LESSON Amazing Scope Of Biblical Law R. H. RAMSEY * Bible students often express amazement at the scope of the laws: of Israel, as set forth in the first books of the Bible. Not only are there laws governing every aspect of civil, moral and spiritual behavior, but also aws with respect to mercy and kindnesses towards the unfortu- nate, the poor and widows. Two verses from Leviticus and a passage from Ruth define the Jaws of harvest and provide us with an example of their ap- plication. Neither is assigned to our lesson, but they are worth discussing briefly. In Leviticus 19:9 and 10, God commands. the Israelites to leave the corners of the fields unreaped and the fallen fruit of Christ's: own words regarding the final judgment of men, 'based upon their treatment of the needy during earthly lives. He pictures Himself separating the sheep from the goats when He returns to establish the Kingdom of God in this world. The term. "sheep'" denotes His followers; "goats," rejected non-believers. WILL BE REWARDED His sheep will have cared for the sick, the needy, the dis- tressed at every opportunity, thus gaining heavenly commen- dtion, Caring for those in need --the least of Christ's brethren --is the same as caring for Christ, had He been the needy one, and will be rewarded by an inheritance in the kingdom of the vineyard on the ground for|qoq the poor and the transients. This is because the lands the Israelite tills are not his own. They are God's and God in- tends a portion of every acre to be reserved for the poor. HOW LAW IS APPLIED Ruth 2:1-18, shows us how the law is applied. Ruth and Naomi. arrive in Bethlehem at harvest time. Boaz, though wealthy, was a good Jew and The goats, those indifferent to the poor, the needy, the wretched, will be punished. They will not gain eternal life, nor will they be allowed in God's kingdom. Thus men's ac- tions towards Christ's own--the needy -- will be determining factors in the great hour of judgment. BARCLAY WARREN . Among the different things one learns to appreciate more while in hospital is the radio. I am thinking especially of those bright spots of sacred musi¢e and Gospel messages dur- ing the week and the great variety of programs on Sunday. When one is weak in body and going through the trial of afflic- tion, the noise of the Beatles and much of the Hit Parade doesn't offer much to soothe, en- courage and draw one closer to God. While in goog health, many of us are so busy that we seldom sit down and give our undivided attention to the good religious programs. But it is different with the sick and shut-ins, of whom there 'are so many. So to the radio station owners and those who prepare these good programs that exalt our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, just remember you are helping many people.
