REPORT FROM PARLIAMENT Pickering Township | Gets Letter Service The government another supply motion for the se of putting forward for yim ussion in the House the esti- mates of a number of govern- mental departments, The official opposition, -as is normal, introduced a motion of 'non-confidence, based on gov- ernmental policies with regard to eastern agriculture. The de- bate was led off by the former Minister of Agriculture, who charged that the Canadian flag issue was -- brought wp b ver up a whole series 0 a omission, including the agri- cultural question. There are, all told, six supply motions during a session of Par. liament and, as has been the practice and tradition of the past, the opposition has an op- portunity to express non-confi- dence in the government on any subject they may choose. Because of the three spliter parties in the opposition, if the official opposition fails to pro- vide such motions of non-confi- dence, then it {s more than like- ly that one of the other groups would do 80. SERVICE Quite recently I received a copy of a letter signed by the Postmaster General to the Bay Ridges Ratepayers' Associ a- tion, advising them that the Post Office Department is plan- ning for the provision of letter carrier service to a_ large gection of Pickering Township. He stated that he was now repared to recommend to the reasury Board that letter car- rier service be provided from the Ajax Post Office to Picker- ing Village, Bay Ridges, Fair- port Beach and Ajax. Since this announcement was made, Pickering Village has de- cided that they would rather re- tain their Post Office, and ask- ed to be excluded from letter carrier service. Following this, E have had rep- resentations made for the inclu- sion of the Pickering Beach area and the Frenchman's Bay area in the letter carrier serv- ice. Upon communication with the Postmaster General, he has now advised-me that consider- ation is being given to include both these areas and I am hop- ing that Treasury Board will approve this submission by the Postmaster General and that | Hillyer of Claremont Baptist introduced] the whole general area, without including some 500 calls in Pickering Village, will be re- ceiving letter carrier service in the not too distant future, MANY VISITORS A tremendous number of visi- tors are now coming to Ottawa. This commenced at the time when the tulips were in full bloom, and is continuing each and every day. Bus loads of tourists, as well as students from various schools, are pres- ent in the House of Commons and the Parliament Buildings. sponsor second: Joan Albright, Uxbridge -- Fred 'Kelland; Larry Allbright, Uxbridge -- Howard Ferguson;|°redit union office, .
