STEELE CEDAR CREEK (Staff) |\Death claimed a former Cedar Creek resident Wednesday afternoon, May 20, when Mrs. |Wiiliam J. Steele passed away suddenly at her home in Rag- lan, The late.Mrs. Steele was the {former -Josie' Leona White, |daughter of the late Mr. and) 'Mrs. George White. Her moth- jer was the former Rebecca iGilroy. They farmed on_ the |Ridges, where Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Jones now reside, and |Josie attended Cedar Creek |school and Prospect Sunday {School and church. The deceased was born on |July 28, 1896, and was married to William John Steele in 1037. They resided on the Steele farm until 1955 when they sold to Wm. Popowich and retired to Raglan, Mr. Steele died in 1059. Mrs. Steele is survived by one brother, Elgin White of Port Perry and one sister, Mrs. GOR don Corner (Lila) of Columbus. Funeral services were con- ducted Saturday afternoon at the McDermott Panabaker Funeral Chapel by the Rev. R.._H. Love, minister of Raglan United Church. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Prince Albert. Pallbearers were Norman Birkett, Roy Brawn and Russel Corner, all of Raglan and James Blain, Ernie Wilerton land George Kilpatrick of Cedar \Creék. MRS. WILLIAM L. SMITH ARTHUR -- A lifelong and well loved resident of this dis- trict, Mrs. William L, Smith of Arthur passed away in Groves Memorial Community Hospital. Mrs. Smith entered hospital 10 days previously when taken sud- denly ill in her home on |George street, Arthur. | The former Lucy Elizabeth Rafter, daughter of the late Thomas Rafter and his wife, Lacy English, she was born March 15, 1872. After residing on a farm in this district, Mrs. Smith moved to Arthur a few years ago. Until a short time ago she was ardent worker in the women's organizations of the United Church. She was pre- deceased by her husband some years ago. Surviving are two sons: Wil- lard of Fergus and Alton of Cal- gary, Alberta, and three daugh- ters, Elva (Mrs. Lloyd Brown- lee) of Arthur, Laura (Mrs. E. (Mrs. Walter Duda) of Guelph. Mrs. Smith rested at the Towriss - Hendrick Funeral Home, Smith street, Arthur, where service was held. Rev. E. E. Kent officiated. - Inter- ment was in Greenfield Ceme- tery. CHARLES WESLEY ASHLEY BELLEVILLE -- Suffering a heart attack while walking on Front street Saturday afternoon, Charles Wesley Ashley, retired farmer and well known resident of West Huntingdon, died sud- denly before medical aid could be summoned. He was born in Huntingdon township, 88 years ago, being the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Simeon Ashley and had re- sided in that community all of his life. Mr, Ashley was a member of West Huntingdon United Church and is survived by one daughter, Miss Ila Ashley of Whitby, two sons, Carmine Ash- ley of St. Catharines and Gar- field Ashley of Victoria, B.C. A sister, Mrs. Florence Harris of this city, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. His wife, the former Eliza Reid, died 28 years ago. The funeral was held today from the Duffin Funeral Home at Stirling with interment in Stirling Cemetery. FUNERAL OF MRS. JOHN A. CLAUS The funeral service for Mrs. John A.
