Boom Football New In Ajax By RENE SOETENS (St. Bernadette's) There is a new game at St. Bernadette's called Boom Foot ball. It is an active game that brings out the skill, agility and courage of each player. It was introduced to the school by the phycial-education teacher, Mr. Bowen. It combines the best skills from games such as Gaelic Football, Rugger, Australian Rules Football and Soccer, all woven together with a few rules of our own to meet the desired thrills. Basically it is a kicking and catching game in which you learn to develop drop kicking, stab kicking and spinal kicking. The main object is the ball. Each man is assigned a man on the opposing team and is to stay with him. There are 11 men on the playing field at once. There are two defence men, three wingmen, three half forwards, one follower, a centre forward and one_ full back. The game begins with a centre jump. The follower takes this jump for each team. There are two basic ways to move the 'ball, one by bouncing which must take place within every six yards or by a two handed underhand pass. The checking in this game is similar to that in soccer and hockey. | A goal is scored by kicking the ball between the uprights. Regular Canadian football goal posts can be used. The goal is credited with 4 points if lis. not touched by the opposi- | tion when it goes through but if it is touched the value is re- duced to one. The way to stop a man is to grab him by the waist and hold him for five seconds, If the person held does not lose possession of the ball the opponents receive a penalty in their favor.
