2 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Tuesdey, April 21, 1964 ABOUT CHARM : Be Well-Dressed On Rigid Budget By NANCY TAYLOR Dear Nancy Taylor: Although I am on a_ very strict budget, I still would like to dress excitingly. I love color -- how can I use it wisely in my wardrobe planning? : Cc. M. Dear C. M.: If you are on a rigid clothing budget, you probably won't be able to indulge yourself in many color sprees. However, this does not mean that you can't be as well-dressed as the girl who has double your bud- get to spend! It merely means that you will need to follow certain rules in order to still stay within your budget. Here are the rules you must follow: i. Select one color scheme; then keep to it, no matter how much you may be tempted to stray from toeing your color line, 2. Make sure that your long- Jife items (such as suits and coats) are in a dark or neutral color. 3. Even though fou love vivid colors dearly, use them sparing- ly. Bright colored items have a way of being remembered -- and they quickly become boring, both to yourself and to those who see you constantly. Con- fine bright colors mostly to accessories. ; 4. Learn to match un colors accurately by learning to '"'see" colors. When you look at a color, try to see the other colors in it. A red for exam- ple, may be a yellow-red or biue-red. Following are five groups of colors. Note how these work in regard to your wardrobe. The) ist and 2nd colors can ali be) interchanged. These are suggest | ed as "background"' colors and are suitable for such long-wear items as winter coats, suits and shoes. The 3rd group of colors will conbine with ail of the col- ors in the first two but not necessarily with each other. | These are suggested for often-| pought items such as accesso | ries, or for light dresses. EXAMPLES l'hu, for example, if you choose black on which to build your wardrobe, you might have a light gray coat chich you wear over a Diack suit or @ress, with black shoes and purse, and -a scarf and hat (or gloves and hat) of any color taken from the third group. COLOR COMBINATIONS BLACK -- Light grey, Light Brown, Beige, Tan, Taupe; White, oyster, champagne, ivory, yellow, pink, red, blue, lavender, green, orange. BROWN -- Beige, Tan, Gray, Gray-Green; White, champagne, ivory, pale pink, pale lavender, Tips For Gal Teens By ANNE WALKER 1. Love that Swiss! A fabric that is making a comeback is dotted Swiss. Look for it in swim suits, blouses as well as pretty summer dresses. 2. Hair is back on the head again. The bouffant hairdo has vanished, so millinery fashion is back. With a trend towards straight, smooth, hair, hats now include softly draped turbans, er high crown roll-brim styles in pastel shades. 3. Baubles -- Bangles -- and Beads. Beads and lots of them is the trend, Not just one neck- Jace, but several. Gay, colorful. Large, long, long metal chains, some finished with handsome pendants. These new chains orange, coral, pale green. NAVY. -- Light Gray, Beige, Tan; White, ivory, champagne, oyster, orange, yellow, pink, red, blue, green. DARK GREEN--Gray, Beige, Taupe; Tan; White, Oyster, ivory, champagne, yellow, orange, coral, pink, pale blue, pale gray, light brown, pale lavender. DARK RED -- Gray, Tan, Beige, Taupe; White, oyster, ivory, champagne, pale blue, pale gray. Notice that these color com- binations are based on not one, but two background colors or neutrals which will blend with eacn other and give you a reallly flexible wardrobe as far as color is concerned, For exam- ple, suppose you choose brown as your first background color, and beige as your second back- ground color. A good choice, then, would be to have your coat, shoes,. and handbag in brown, and your suit in beige. Now here's where this dual color scheme reveals its prac- ticatity. Your accessories--eith in brown, beige, or a contrast- ing color" such as green will automaticai'y blend with either of your background colors! Thus, you need only one set of accessories ... . and they do not have to be confined to the back- gray, pale TORONTO -- Here's a story to raise your eyebrows! According to the public serv- ice division of The British Mo- tor Corporation of Canada Lim- ited, the thin line of hairs above your eyes are among your most valuable possessions. If you pluck them -- take warning. You can be_ taking your very life in your hands! Far fetched? Not a bit. In fact, BMC tels us our eyebrows are considered so adian hospitals have _ special operating room orders about them. The orders specify flatly: No surgeon is permitted to. touch so much as one of these fine hairs above your eyes. Physi- cians can shave you bald as a gooseberry for a brain operation but even if there are severe facial cuts -- the surgeon must not tamper with your eyebrows. They must be left intact. Rugsian medics don't agye entirely. The late Professor: Eli Metchikoff of the Pasteur. In- stitute asked: '"'What is the good of hair? It catches germs; it is a vestige of the ape within us." BMC tells us Canadian sur- geons and hospitals don't agree. Our eyebrows are simple, all purpose, life saving, human windshield wipers, they say. The brow hairs are delicately arch-formed and directed to prevent perspiration from the forehead trickling directly into our eyes. If you should be driving when this happens, the sharp, stinging ground color . .. for both out- fits.
