Montrose Linfield Glentoran Portadown IRISH LEAGUE leraine STANLEY CUP semi-final rounds are now at "the must" stage -- tonight the home teams have to win -- or else. At Maple Leaf Gardens, the Toronto Leafs will face Montreal Canadiens, with the Habs leading the series 3-2 and Mapleos have to win tonight to force a seventh and deciding game -- which, if necessary, will be on Thursday night down in Mont- real. Detroit Red Wings are in exactly the same spot. They ere at home, at their Olympia, to the Chicago Black Hawks end Red Wings have to win tonight to keep their series alive -- and if they do, the seventh game is in Chicago on Thursday night. x x x x TORONTO COACH "Punch" Imlach calls his Johnny Bower "'the best goalie in the world" while 'Toe' Blake points out that Canadiens' Charlie Hodge has proven just a little better, especially in most games against the Leafs, this season. There has been some conjecture as the Mont- real-Toronto series progressed, that Bower might be side- lined in favor of Simmons but Imlach has come right out with his choice for tonight's game. However, Toronto has called in a few of their farm hands, Kent Douglas, Al Ar- bour, Eddie Litzenberger and Gerry Ehman and one of them will dress tonight. Our guess is that it will be Litzenberger, although the AHL scoring leader Ehman is rated as a likely choice, in many circles. SID ABEL, coach of the Detroit Red Wings, is in line for a heavy fine from NHL president Clarence Campbell -- could even be suspended -- but we're betting that nothing will hap- pen. Abel started screaming when referee Frank Udvari gave that disputed goal to Chicago in the third period on Sunday night and he hasn't stopped yet. He has been quoted in Chicago papers, Detroit papers, and Toledo;--where the Wings are working out. Abel admits he called Udvari "every name in the book"' and Udvari took it -- didn't even say a word to Abel or the Detroit bench -- after the goal-call. Quite a few "neutrals" insist that Udvari had blown his whis- tle and that play had been officially stopped, before Ken Wharram dug the puck out of the side of the net and slid it under Crozier. One thing is certain -- Clarence Campbell will not levy any fine on Gadsby -- if Campbell is going to make such a big point about supporting his officials -- he automatically is handcuffed -- he can not punish Gadsby when Udvari didn't see fit to levy any fine or penalty. After all -- this would be going over the referee's head. We'll admit readily that "the game" is bigger than any man or eny referee's decision -- but just the same, it would have been mighty interesting if Coach Abel had pulled his team off the ice, in Chicago on Sunday night. x x x x BRIGHT BITS: -- Heavy- rain at Augusta, Georgia, will make the grass longer and give the long-ball hitters a big edge in the U.S. Master Tournament, that opens on Thurs- day.
