=@ THE OSHAWA TIMES, Friday, February 28, 1964 ~ Oshawa Has 49th Birthday 'S° By ALBERT V. WALKER, MPP, Oshawa (Provincial) Riding I would like to take this op- portunity of congratulating the 78 Oshawa Times on the publica- tion of their annual Progress Edition, It is fitting that this year's edition should highlight the <-40th anniversary of the incor- poration of Oshawa as a city. The town of Oshawa was in- © corporated as a city on Satur- <2 day, March 8, 1924, and that "day brings back happy memio- ries. I recall as a very young ~ boy marching in the parade which was part of the official ceremony. I was a member of is: the' Salvation Army Boys' Band and the large banner. in front of the band read "The Baby Band of the Baby City" and caused considerable interest among the large crowds watching the pa- rade. At the time Oshawa had a ie strewn with much discourage- ment, but it can also be very rewarding and those who have served their city in any way during the years, may well en- joy a measure of satisfaction in the development which has been achieved. The future for Oshawa is bright, with predictions pointing to a large increase in popula- tion during the next 20 years. The challenges of the future will be many, but together we can look forward confidently to the years that lie ahead, Metcalf Has Busy Year Lioyd Metcalf Real Estate Limited have completed another jsuccessful year in Oshawa busi- ness. Two of the bigger deals they handled during the year were K - Mart, between Oshawa and Whitby, and a 110-unit motel to be built near Highway 401 on Bloor street, Mr, Metcalf hopes to close other big deals in the near fu- ture. He believes Oshawa to be a unique city in Canada because Ideal Dairy Ultra Modern one of the most modern in th jated tankers to Oshawa, then, processed under stringently hy- gienic conditions, imported Swedish sterilizer pas- i teurizes the milk in a flash 16- ; A dairy which claims to be|second process, using unusual-| For Algoma Manufacturing|house for a soft drink company.|py John F. Ideal Dairy Products Limited, 390 Ritson road north, claims three "firsts" in the Canadian dairy industry. They are: --First to provide 100 per cent refrigeration of milk, from the cow to the customer's door-step. This excepting 16 seconds of high temperature pasteuriza- tion. --First to provide: "ultra high" processing of milk, using spe- jcial Swedish equipment. --First to collect and haul milk from farms in bulk. Ideal has come a long way from its humble beginnings in 1931. In those days, Stanley Begg, delivered milk along a solitary route. Now milk and dairy products are available from Ideal salesmen - drivers along 30 different routes. We are especially proud of the giant strides made in 1963. Oshawa simply sprouted out in every conceivable way. A remarkable feat in deriving funds for our new "'Community Centre" . . . the departure of the out-dated railway tracks on King street, the installation of new underground services and a broad new road . . . the new Boys' Club, expansion at General Motors and other plants, new commercial buildings, and a boom in home construction.
