The worship service was con- ducted by Mrs. Robert Currie and her group. The entire group repeated a prayer of general thanksgiving Mrs. Nick Gulenchyn read the scrip- ture, Mrs. Douglas Courtney led the group in prayer. The members joined in singing hymn 19. Mrs. Currie closed the service with a prayer, Mr. Harry Souch, president, then conducted a short busines: meeting, after which refresh- ments were served by the com- mittee in charge | The recreational meeting for October' was in the form of a membership banquet. Group 5, under the leadership of Mr. and Mrs, J. W. Tisdall, were guests of honor as they were the win- ners of the.membership contest. SIMCOE STREET UCW (Sunshine Unit) In place of the regular meet- ing the Sunshine Unit of Simcoe Street United Church held a Mrs, Norman Eddy read the minutes and Mrs. Kenneth) Cowan gave the treasurer's report. The group made $54.37 from the Nearly-New Sale held early in October. The nominating committee, consisting of Mrs. Robert Cur- rie, Mrs. Norman Eddy, Mrs. Alex Ivanoff and Mrs, Elgin Savery will present the new slate of officers at the Novem- ber meeting. Mrs. McLeod read a_ thank you note sent by Mrs. Steve Salmers. The general meeting of the UCW will be held on November 20 at 8 p.m. Mrs. Neville Lawrence intro- duced the guest for the evening, Mrs. Jameson, who showed colored slides, These included, a sailing trip taken in a 42-foot boat by Mrs. Jameson from Norfolk, Virginia to Bermuda. The crew. had many adventures on this trip including a four- hour storm where one mem- ber of the crew was tied to the Steering wheel and the other rode the storm out below. Mrs. Jameson also told of her trip to Mexico and Jamacia. Mrs. Bruce Travell thanked the speaker. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Currie and her group. HAPPY DOUBLES CLUB The first indoor meeting of the fall season of the Mappy Doubles Club of King Street United Church was held in Upper Centennial Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Spratt and their group were in charge of the program for the evening. A worship service on the theme of "Thanksziving" was conducted by Mrs. J. D Lane, Mrs. Frank Burrows and Mr Alan Thompson, A variety program with Mr. Frank Burrows as master of ceremonies, < followed. Mrs. David Weldon, guest soloist, presented vocal: selections, and Mr. Terry Keys, accompanied by Mrs. H. Keys played the violin, Mr. Gordon Hawker read a humorous story. Mr. Arthur MacPherson sang two num- bers and Mr. Vernon Osborne, assisted in a sing song. dessert musicale on Monday evening. Under the direction of Mr. Reginald Geen, an interesting program was arranged. Master Radu Azdril of Co- bourg played several piano se- ions. Mr. Larry Marshall of Osh- awa was a guest soloist. Mr. John Hodgins, choir master of Grace Church on the Hill, Toronto, and two members of his boys' choir were very well received. Mr. Hodgins gave a very in- teresting ang humorous talk on the trip his boys' choir made to England two seasons ago. They carried on for the serv- ices in Westmigster Abbey dur- ing the regular choir's vacation.
