Ladies' Lawn Bowling Club Enjoys Gala Summer Evenings This club was organized many day evenings and Saturday af- years ago, prior to 1936. The greens were formerly located on the corner of Alexandra and Simcoe north streets, where the murses' residence now stands, but in the year 1939 the new greens at McMillan drive and pe ei street west were open- This has been a very active elub and many cups and tro- phies have been won by its rinks. The Bradley Trophy is held in early September of each ar, and there has always Seen a full entry. The Bassett is another popular event for ' giixed play, and Mr. and Mrs. C. Churchley donated a beauti- ful trophy with replicas, for club competition, and the tour- mament also drew a full entry. The club is run on a schedule of games beginning in June, and holds gala nights during the season. The membership is 80. The ladies play Tuesday evening end Thursday afternoon for schedule games and in the mixed on Wednesday and Fri- Remembrance Code Silver Cross Women We hold our meeting once a month with an average of 12 members present. This year we made donations to the following organizations: Boys' Club, Sim- coe Hall; Arena Fund, Oshawa; to the Westmount School plaque: Crippled Children, Retarded and Cerebral Palsy. Sick members and_ shut-ins ere looked after. We send par- eels to six bed-ridden veterans in Sunnybrook Hospital, To- ronto; also help Hillsdale Manor and Fairview Lodge. We hold a tag day in June, also a fall bazaar and tea, to help us maintain our activities. These chapters are 46,in num- ber, all across Canada. We also attended convention of the Sil- ver Cross helti at Ste. Agathe, Quebec this year. These women are all mothers and wives of men who lost their lives over- sa in World Wars One and 0. By removal on retirement to Vancouver and Meaford -- the club lost two active and well beloved couples, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Metcalfe and Mr. and Mrs. R. €. Wright. These mem- bers were of long standing. Alf Metcalfe was for many years the men's secretary and Bob Wright an auditor and expert bowler. Their wives were very active and popular and Lyla and Dorothy will long be re- membered by the club as won- derful playmates. Two other popular couples and long time members, who have been most generous in their club gifts are Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ward and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bradley. These members celebrated their Dia- mond Weddings recently with- in. a week of each other. The club was so pleased to extend congratulations to these admir- able couples and wish them many more years of together- ness and companionship. In October, however, Mr. Joe Ward passed on to his reward. Joe will be missed very much and we all will have treasured memories of happy times spe:t together. This also applies to Fred Cochrane, Charlie White and Frank Jacobi who were so capable and always willing te assist the ladies in their work and play. Receiving Life Memberships were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bradley, Mr. and Mrs. Jve Ward, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brow2- lee and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Gibbs. These were given on their celebration of their Golden wedding. The club also gave a party and recognition to Gordoa Mc- Millan, who reached the finais in the Dominion Finals; also to Mrs. Stanley Gibbs, Mrs. George Read and Mrs. Ross Flintoff who reached the finals in the "Provincials". The presidents during the years have been Mrs, Harry Stacey, Mrs. O. H. Clatworthy, Mrs, Norval Wilson, Mrs: R. Norris, Mrs. A. G. Coppin, Mrs. Norman Legge, Mrs. Leo Gray, Mrs. H. J. McDiarmid, Mrs. Ewart Cornish, Mrs. J. Mc- Cutcheon, Mrs. W. Langmaid, Mrs. H.' Whittaker, Mrs. Ed. Bradley, Mrs. Ewart Clemence, Mrs. Ralph Jewell, Mrs. Wm. Duncan, Mrs. Jerry Oatway, Mrs. F.
