(CP)-- With the opening of an 1814-mile section of Highway 401 east of here today, only three gaps re- main in the highway. The-section between Highway 21, near Ridgetown, and High- way 76, north of West Lorne, will become a two-lane highway today, the highways department announced Monday. The new stretch will permit a 350-mile through drive from Windsor to west of Marysville. Cost of the latest section .was $4,754,000, the department said. It has been graded for four- lanes, with paving of the re- maining two lanes to begin shortly. The appointment takes ef- fect Nov. 1 Commissioner Harvison April 18 this year reached the date for automatic retirement in the RCMP--35 years' service. At the request of former justice minister Donald Fleming, he agreed to stay on for a while longer. George McClellan, 54, worked his way up through the ranks to the post of deputy commissioner after joining the force as a re- cruit in 1932. In 1948 he was promoted to superintendent and in 1953 be- came the commander of the RCMP in westem Ontario with headquarters at Toronto. He commanded the force in Alberta in 1956 as an assistant commissioner and in 1959 came back to Ottawa as deputy com- missioner in charge of the force's administration.
