Oshawa Merchants Win At Port Hope Oshawa Merchants chalked up another victory in the Lake- shore Intermediate Baseball League schedule, when they whipped "Ontarios" 8-2, last night in Port Hope, in a game that was called at the end of six innings, due to darkness, Al Wagner, pitching for Osh. awa, gave up two runs on two hits, in the first Jnning and then blanked the homesters for. the rest of the distance. George Gratton opened the first inning with a single for Port Hope and scored, with one out, on a triple by Murray Kelly. Rich Brown's sacrifice fly scored Kelly--and Ontario's never scored again. In the third, they had hits from Gratton and Kelly, plus an infield error in between but Gratton was nipped at the plate, with the bases loaded and none out, then Wagner fanned Mike Harrison and Mal Stevenson to end the threat, He was never in trouble again, although George Fenton tripled in the fifth, with one out, but Kelly fouled out and Brown grounded to first. Bill Wakely started on the mound for the homesters, Osh- awa got to him in the second inning when the Port Hope de- fence collapsed. Ted Lutton walked to start off the inning and Jim McConkey sacrificN Then Roger Wood was safe on an error, Al Etchells singled, Wagner was safe on an error, so was Jock Fisher, then Bob Reid -- all the errors being by the unlucky shortstop, 'Butch' Dowe's single completed the five-run rally, 'lthe hitting for "Ontarios' and SPORTS CALENDAR Merchants got thelr othv three runs in the fourth inning on a walk to Dowe, single by Ted Whiteley, an infield error, stolen base, bad throw by the catcher and a choice play.
