Last year 8 hockey leagues -- 34 teams -- at least 510 players -- were forced to play their "home" games outside Oshawa! Last year --Oshawa figure skaters (and we've got the world champion) had to travel to Toronto to practice. Last year -- Oshawa didn't have a civic home for such activities as wrestling, boxing, ice shows, concerts, track and field, opera, dancing, roller skating, basketball, exhibitions, swimming meets, football, baseball. We need to Raise $1 Million-- Here's how you can help. Just give us 2 minutes of your working time each day. 2 minutes, that's all! Local companies have agreed to assist by providing facilities for a payroll deduction of just 40c When Oshawa folk want something -- they roll up their sleeves and go get it! So let's make up our minds -- Ontario's most prosperous city isn't going to be minus a Civic Auditorium any longer! We've got the land -- 20 acres of it, on Thornton Road. And we've got the people -- you and you and you! Don't wait for the other fellow --let's build it ourselves, for ourselves. Then we can look back with pride and say, "WE DID IT". a week. That's the cost of a pack of cigarettes -- or less than 3 rides on the PUC! If you feel like giving more -- fine! But 40c¢ a week is all we're asking.
