This particular matter has been repeatedly brought to the attention of both the Town Engineer and Mayor Martin. I hold no quarrel with Mr. Hoag, for I feel he nas done as magnificent a job as one can do working with a '"'buck-pass- ing" Council. 3. The recent rash of grass fires in this area brought me into more personal contact with lands involved, and I suggest Council make further inspection and a definite decision on the state of affairs now existiag at the defunct (or is it?) Price Lumber Yards. The fire hazard that sti 'sts there and is graduai., encompassing the general neighborhood calls for prompt attention. While in this particular section, Members of Council along with the Medical Officer of Health, should take a good hard look at the slumber- ing slum potential that exists there. 4. Since we have lived in Whitby, we have personally seen to it, that the ditch and culvert on the north side of Mary street beginning at our lot line and right up to Garden street has been kept as clean and free-running in the spring, and as clean as time and ener- gies permit in the summer, as the Department of Works allow. The utter indifference of the garbage collectors as to whether the garbage is put into the truck supplied or into the ditch is re- volting. Their flagrant abuse of privately owned garbage con- tainers, is even more devastat- ing, Perhaps they would benefit by a daily reminder from their department head as to "why" they were hired. It should be reasonably ob- vious even to the most obstinate Member of Council that pro- gress, like charity, begins at home, and now that you have all been enlightened, singly and Ey An Oshawa youth was fined on a driving offence at Whitby Traf- fic Court Thursday.
