Campbell terrtng From mn Nuts' a ART POTTER, president of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association, who had some comments to make re- garding the officialing during the recent World's Hockey Tournament at Stockholm, has announced that Frank Daig- meauit, referee-in-chief of the main Quebec hockey body, will be the referee in charge of the Memorial Cup finals, between Edmonton Oil Kings and Niagara Falls Flyers, The linesmen will be two men from Edmonton. All the games are going to be played in Edmonton. Don't know whether president Potter is trying to cut down on expenses or not, but with all that Edmonton influence -- the work of his linese- men, as well as the referee, had better be very good -- or Mr. Potter will be hearing from one "Hap" Emms, 'Niagara Falls mentor, who can at times be a very irate tormentor, too! x % yee DIAMOND DUST !. Oshawa City and District Softball Association officers and team representatives are holding a meeting this Sunday, 12:30 p.m.; at the Oshawa Children's Arena and all teams from Juvenile rating up, interested in OASA competition this summer, should have a delegate on hand. Also, we pass along a repeat reminder -- umpires wishing to handle Oshawa City and District Assoc. softball games this season are asked to submit an application in writing, to Secretary Alex Donaldson. . . . OSHAWA MER- CHANTS, who operated in the Lakeshore Intermediate Base- ball League last summer and provided baseball for adult players and a lot of good Sunday afternoon crowds at Lake- view Park, are going to operate again in the Lakeshore League this season. Club manager Bob Beers and coach Ted' Stone have called a practice session for Sunday morn- ing, 10:00 o'clock, at Alexandra Park and all interested play- ers are invited to try out for the team. x x x x THE OLDTIMERS of hockey in this city, those who re- member the old Church League days at Bradley's Rink and the Oshawa OHA Junior Shamrocks and the Senior teams of the early Oshawa Arena days, learned with deep regret this week of the passing of Vic Burr, long regarded as one of the finest goalies around these parts. We can recall that while unusual, it was more than once that Vic would don the pads for St. George's Midgets fora 6:30. o'clock game and wouldn't have 'em off again until midnight, playing, at 14, for the midget, juvenile, junior and senior teams, all in the game night. In later years, he contributed to minor sport in a large measure here in his hometown, as president of the Minor Hockey Association for several years and also as vice- president of the Minor Softball Association, at its inception. He was held in high esteem as a Christian, gentleman and true sportsman. We join with the many who knew him and all who admired him, in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved family. ' z x x FIRST REPORT from the local ° fin-and-water dept.! Doug Lavis, fishing in the Oshawa Creek, one morning this week, landed two handsome 18-inch»Brown trout. The suc- cess story concluded that he didn't have to go too far and while not big enough for the trophy shelf, they went mighty well in the frying pan. S555 i 4,405.
