Jermyn and his staff completed the official count Wednesday. Norman Cafik, Liberal stand- ardbearer dropped 145, to 20,174 from the original 20,319 votes reported cast in his favor elec- tion night. Aileen Hall, New Democratic Party candidate dropped 176, toji 15,020 votes from the 15,196 re- ported cast in her favor when the returns were made public election night. Michael Starr, Progressive Conservative standard bearer and minister of labor in the last parliament, dropped 159, to 22,- 902 from the 23,059 votes re- ported cast in his favor when Results of last the returns were made public. Mr. Starr reclaimed his seat in the federal government, but his majority was considerably less this year than it has been in the past. Mr, Jermyn said Wednesday 182.50 per cent of the 70,365 elig- ible voters turned out at the polis April 8 to exercise their franchise. The Brooklin school rate jumped 90 per cent, from 12.44 mills in 1962 to 23.64 mills this since he entered the federal political arena. In Oshawa, the only munici- pality in which the vote total has been computed, as the re- sult of the official count, Nor- man Cafik polled 9,523 votes, Aileen Hall polled 8,631 and Michael Starr collected 11,207 votes. Dr. Robert Thornton School Couple Marks 60th Wedding Anniversary 60 years ago, Joseph Cowx married Grade Hodge at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Work- ington, Cumberland, England. In 1910 the couple decided to make their home in Canada. They settled at Cherrywood, Ont., in 1917, later moved to Whitby Township and 23 years later, moved to Whitby. Mr. Cowx retired seven years ago after 40 years at the buckle factory. He is a past member of the Sons of England Lodge. Mrs. Cowx is a member of Royal Canadian Legion Ladies' Auxiliary and also a member of Co-op Guild. The couple have six childreti, 25 grandchildren and, 34 great- grandchildren.
