Round the Clock READY TO BUY PROSPECTS Read Times To File Income Tax By ARCH MacKENZIE OTTAWA (CP)--About 6,000,- 000 Canadians must file 1962 personal income tax returns be- fore May 1 and two changes await their scrutiny, Most will welcome one. It implements the $50 increase au- thorized by Parliament last year in the éxemptions to be claimed for each dependent child. The new exemption is $300 per child. The other. will mean more arithmetic for many tax filers although no higher federal tax. It follows the withdrawal last March 31 of the federal govern- ment from the tax-rental field which it shared with all prov- inces except Quebec. The federal government has agreed to continue collecting tax for all provinces except Quebec--but a number of tax- payers must figure out how much they owe to each govern- ment. SOME PAY NO MORE Residents of seven provinces --Newfoundland, Prince Ed- tax rather than get some money back tend to take longer to file returns. Tax calculation for 1962 with the so-called Tl form used by about 80 per cent of all per- sons filing income tax returns-- proceeds much the same way as in 1961, INCOME LISTED Total income is listed. Then allowable deductions are set out, This produces total taxable income, Tax on this income is cal- culated although this year this amount is called federal tax. amount for old age security tax. The tax rates and tables supplied with each form in- cluded it in their figures. | There still is a simplified| | amount of calculation possible for a number of Canadians, This applies to persons who have taxable income of $3,000 Provinces, Ontario, Alberta or British Co- lumbia. These are the prov. inces whose provincial rose equal the 16 od cent of basic federal tax. os Then, after any adjustments or credits, the figure for the so-called 'basic' tax is pro- duced. At this point, the tax filer has to figure out what 16 per cent of that basic tax is. This is the portion that will go to all prov- inces except Quebec. He de- ducts that from the sum he owes the federal government. Finally, he adds to his federal tax total a flat $90 or three per cent of his taxable income, of action to take to keep Insured ONTARIG If you change jobs, follow carefully the instructions on the back of the Certificate of Payment, Form 104, which your group is required to give you, ward Island, Nova Scotia, New| whichever is less. Plans, Specific "ons, Tender ; funeral arrang | Forms and Tender envelopes On Tuesday, March 26th viewed at Room 6527, De- AT 8:00 P.M. The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of charac- ter and good citizenship. It is a store- house of spiritual values, Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive, There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regu- larly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake, (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regu- larly and read'your Bible daily, I tried, as gently as I could, to tell him that, in time, all things die, And as I did so, I realized how valuable it is for a child to have even as small a pet as a goldfish, For in observing a pet -- even in suffering the loss of one -- a child begins to learn a great deal about life, in a natural and understandable way. But I warned myself, it is important to realize that he is learning only the visual, material part of the lesson. In order to understand what he is seeing, and what he is feeling, he must be taught its spiritual meaning. This is why religious education is so important, That is why Jimmy attends church with us .... and he'll start church school, next fall, a DOVE -- In loving memory of a dear gon, John Arthur Dove, who passed away on March 9, 1960.
