They were re- léased undér bond pending an appeal, Goldberg under $50,000 unless all other Metro teams are also embraced in an inter- sked setup, will come as comforting news to all the other Metro Junior "A"' clubs. In effect, it means only: that for this season, the Junior Marlboros are going to stick with the league Staff Smythe formed, but at least, if this is the final decision and no further overtures are made, the air is cleared for the balance of this season at least. Confidence and secur- ity are two things the Metro League must have right now, if some of the teams are to continue playing out this season, never mind making plans for next term. It's no secret that reduced action at the turnstiles has been causing concern for all clubs and considerable worry for a couple of the teams. Another interesting bit of news from last night's meeting is that Oshawa Generals will play their "home games' at the Whitby Arena, starting in the New Year. We don't know whether or not the Toronto and Métro-area teams will object to this extra travelling, but certainly Brampton has no right to object and Knob Hill Farms are about as close to Whitby as to Maple Leaf Gardens, so they shouldn't kick either. As long as suitable arrangements .for dates in the Whitby Arena can be made, it would appear that the Generals can do better there than going to MLG for almost every game. They are building a good following of fans and these rooters will find it easier to support their team, if the home games are in Whitby. x x | x BRIGHT BITS: -- Fog has struck the British Isles this week and yesterday, 40 minutes before game-time, with a special train of Tottenham fans still fog-bound somewhere in the south of Scotland, they called off that second game be- tween Hotspurs and Rangers, to have been played in Glasgow Wednesday afternoon. They'll try again on Tuesday. z MUTUAL STREET ARENA, Toronto's house of hockey for many years, home of the St. Pats and later Maple Leafs, will soon be the second largest curling centre in the world. It's now a three-storey affair, inside the original walls and roof, with car parking on the main floor. They have eight curling sheets and a roller-skating rink on the top floor and plan 18 more curling sheets on the second floor? Last year's On- tario's Brier representatives all work there -- Bayne Secord as chief instructor and asst, manager, Dave McDonough as manager with Vern Larson and Russ Lindberg as instructors.
