Chuck Dressen Will Return To *| Former Mates ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) -- Los Angeles Dodgers announced Sunday the appointment of Charlie Dressen as the National League club's scout and trou- bleshooter. Dressen. managed Toronto Maple Leafs to second place in the International League last season. Dressen, a former Dodger THE OSHAWA TIMES, Monday, November 26,1962 |] Brother Line Nets Generals 5-2 Upset Win Over Farmers Knob Hill Farms manager, Johnny "Peanuts" O'Flaherty, outguessed himself yesterday, at Maple Leaf Gardens, where Oshawa Generals claimed a 3-2 upset victory over his team in the first game of a Metro Juniot "A" hockey double- header. O'Flaherty removed goal- tender, Dave Kelly, from the Farmers' net in. favor of a sixth attacker late in the final period. Oshawa's Paul Domm was serving a two-minute. cross- checking penalty. Generals led 2-1 at that point. Bobby Orr, the 133-pound rearguard dynamo, picked up a loose puck inside his own blue line and pumped it into the vacated Knob Hill net, 160 feet away, to give Oshawa the insur- ance marker they would need. Ray Winterstein scored what would have been the tieing goal 27 seconds later at 19.43 of the period. Winterstein had counted the other Knobb Hill goal when he beat Jim Couch in the Osh- awa nets, late in the first period. Oshawa's Vail brother line Horse Fans Bet $90,000,000 30 seconds remaining in the middle frame. Terry Vail tucked the puck past a prostrate goaltender, Dave Kelly, after he had taken a pass from brother, George Vail, in front of the Knob Hill net. George Vail put the Generals in front for the first time at 16.06 of the third frame when he beat the Knob Hill goaltend- er from close in. Orr and Winterstein added their goals to complete the scoring. Oshawa's coach, Doug Wil- liams, said, "I'm overwhelmed with their 'effort. Today, they became a hockey team." He added, "They are men, not boys anymore." The Generals are still 'i fifth place but the victory moved them one point closer to Bramp- ton, in fourth spot, when To- ronto Marlboros and Brampton 7-Ups battled to a 6-6 draw. The Generals have six points, one less than Brampton's seven, in the second game of the twin-bill. Oshawa plays host to Whitby Dunlops this Friday at Maple Leaf Gardens in the first game of another hockey doublehead- er Friday. The last time the two teams met Oshawa overcame a four- goal deficit to salvage a 4-4 tie. During Season TORONTO (CP) -- A record crowd of 17,460 bet a record $959,128 at Old Woodbine race track Saturday as Ontario's 196-day racing season ended. The day's wageing, a record for thoroughbred racing in the province, brought the total mu- tuel money at Fort Erie, New Woodbine and Old Woodbine this year to $90,477,564. Whiteborough's win in the featured Valedictory Stakes, the seventh race, was almost an anti-climax, but the second- place finish of Stafford Farms' Windy Ship decided the race between money-winning owners. Windfields Farm, with total season earnings 'of $244,727, shaded Stafford Farms by $615. manager and coach, will scout players on other major league clubs. The post is similar to that held by Mayo Smith of New York Yankees and for which Chicago White Sox recently hired Charlie Metro. Dressen, 64, formerly man- aged Brooklyn Dodgers, Cincin- nati Reds, Washington Senators and Milwaukee Braves. He guided the Dodgers to the Na- tional League, pennant in 1952 and 1953 and was a coach on the Dodgers' pennant-winning club of 1959 in Los Angeles. He was a coach for New York Yan- kees in 1947 and 1948. Dressen quit the. Dodgers after the 1953 season when Wal- ter O'Malley refused to give him a long-term contract. He left the Dodgers again in 1960 to manage the Braves, who fired him in August 1961. Leaside High Wins Fourth Race 1 Mile, Etimota Johns Champ That Critter Major's Choice .. Double Rule ...
