Monday marks the first day of "Victorian Order of Nurses Week" in the town. The VON and helpers are staging a cam- paign to assist the organization EXHIBITION GAME TONIGHT The curtain officially rises on hockey activity in Whitby this season when Kitchener-Waterloo Tigers, members of the OHA Senior "A" circuit oppose Whitby Dunlops Junior "A" club tonight in the Whitby Community arena, starting at 8.30 p.m. Kitchener has some players who visited Whitby in Senior company a few years back, including Harold "Boat" Hurley, for several seasons with K-W Dutchmen, Ivan Tennant, Ted Maki and Bob Forhan. One chap in the Kitchener lineu 9 certainly needs no in- troduction to Whitby and district hockey fans, Sandy ir, - @ member of the Whitby Dunlops while in their champion- ship era. Sandy was not active as a player last season, but kept his hand in the game of hockey at the managerial level with Brampton Seven-Ups in the Metro Junior "A" league. But the urge to don the skates once more must have been too great for Sandy to resist so he joined the Tigers. Kitchener has played one game prior to this evening's contest: On Thursday night Charlotte Checkers, of the United States Eastern League, downed the Tigers, 8-3, in Kitchener. uniform for that clash. However, a couple of key players were not in ATTERSLEY SATISFIED WITH WORKOUT Dunlops coach, Bobby Attersley, was pleased with his players in last night's prep. Two of last year's Mohawks, Bill Smith and Bill Collins, were romping at top speed. They should have great seasons. All 25 players who have survived the whittling down by manger Ivan Davie will dress for tonight's encounter. Three goaltenders will stop pucks for one period each Ray Reeson, Lore Campbell, Whitby products, and Mario Dicento from the THL Juvenile circuit, where his club cap- tured the crown last season. On defence, only Chic Carnegie has returned from last year's club. Newcomers include, Gerrit Hamer, last year with Consumers' Gas Juveniles; Jim Wilson, Aurora Jun- for "B' club; Danny Tremblay, from Gatineau, Quebec, and. George Meeks, a midget from Ajax, Both Wilson and Tremblay are signed, but Davie and Attersley are taking a long look at Hamer and Meeks. There is a complete contrast between Hamer and Meeks. Gerrit is big and rugged, but lacks some finesse, which Attersley hopes to alter in due time, while Meeks is a little guy, who anticipates plays like a veteran. Up front, Dunlops appear to be set. Kowalski, Fletcher, and Paul Henry just signed two nights ago, last season * with Port Credit of the Metro Junior "B" League and lead- ing scorer until early January when he busted a leg; Bob Marshall, from Ajax; Bill LePage, from Bowmanville; Ron Moore, Bob Everett, Bob Bishop, along with Smith and Collins have impressed the Dunlops brass. Tonight's exhibition game, along with two tilts lined up for next week with Clinton Comets, Tuesday, and Toronto Marlboros Thursday, will tell the tale about who will re- ceive starting assignments in the league opener, Tuesday, in its work, During the week a house to house canvass will take place in Whitby. It is expected that a good showing will be made for the nursing sisters who do so much to make the lives of the sick and helpless easier.
