Bowmanville Man Gets 60 Day Term BOWMANVILLE (Staff) David Bruder, of Flett street, Bowmanville, was sentenced to a total of 60 days in the Re- clamation Centre for Alcoholics in Mimico by Magistrat R. Two of them, Frank Pen- wright 'of 43 Stone street, Osh- awa and John Frederick Cobble- dick of Newcastle, were given a year's probation each by Magis- trate R. B. Baxter. John Tendam of Newcastle and Dennis Wannan of Orono were remanded out of custody to appear again Dec, 11 for sen- tence. They were ordered to ob- Serve an 8 p.m. curfew. Late For Meal, Driver Fined $100, Costs BOWMANVILLE (Staff) -- A man who told police he was in a hurry because he was late for Supper on Sunday afternoon, was fined $100 and costs or one month in jail in magistrate's court here Tuesday. Norman Guy Carter, 21, of 310 Oshawa boulevard north, Oshawa, pleaded guilty to dan- gerous driving before Magistrate R. B. Baxter. He was also pro- hibited from driving anywhere in Canada for one year. Constable H. R. 'Pat' Cor- nell, OPP Bowmanville detach- ment, said he saw the Carter vehicle about 5 p.m. Sunday on Highway 2 near Maple Grove. He told the court he had to pull the cruiser off the highway, a child on a bicycle was almost struck and other cars pulled off the road to avoid being hit by the Carter vehicle. The police officer said he turned his cruiser around and gave chase, reaching speeds up to 95 miles-per-hour.. When he reached the Carter vehicle, he found it in a ditch against a tree. Police earlier estimated the damage at $1,000.
