Apparently a bunch of the boys were mulling over the 18 holes completed earlier in the eve- ning. A gentleman by the name of Harry Smith stumbled upon an unusual idea, which was in the form of a challenge. He offered host pro Wilson Paterson and two other pro golfers 20-1 odds if they could birdie the long par-five first hole. Paterson, with the aid of headlights from Bob Cherry's car and several other interested members to illuminate the fairway,: did accomplish the birdie. It was quite an accomplishment indeed, considering the time of night. The other gentle- men came close with par-five's. Brooklin Hillcrests move into Brampton to- night to meet the league-leaders in a schedule OLA Senior league tilt. Brampton at present hold.a lengthy 10-point bulge over runner-up Brooklin. If Hillcrests retain any thought of dislodging Ramblers from the choice spot, tonight would be an opportune time to work on the matter at hand. On Saturday night these clubs meet in the Brooklin Community arena at 8:45 p.m. Tonight's engagement presents quite a chal- lenge to Hillcrests. If successful in knocking over the league-leaders, they would be the first opposi- tion to do so in Brampton. TOWN AND COUNTRY... Eastern Pro Hockey league officials were deeply saddened by the loss of Jack Humphreys, certainly a key factor in the workings of the league. Humphreys wasi very active in recent EPHL meetings as they strived to iron out problems. : New York Ranger general manager Muzz Patrick will have quite a chore filling the vacancy left by Humphreys' untimely death .. . I met Bob Ballard in Haliburton last. Sunday. Some of you Whitby Dunlop followers will re- member Bob for his tremendous work with the Booster Club. Bob is now in Windsor, and being the great hockey fan he is, follows the Bulldogs and neighboring Detroit Red Wings closely . . .
