Pictured above at the presentation ceremony with Mr, Borchuk, centre, are Thomas R. When I called Mohawk manager and interim coach Ivan Davie about who was going to replace since departed Bob Cherry, he replied, "No comment." (Rather an odd name for a coach!) I got the impres- sion from our conversation that even if he did know, he wouldn't tell me. Mr. Davie said that I didn't give him enough praise about the way he led the Mohawks to a 3-3 tie in Unionville Tuesday, Our deepest apolo- gies. Seriously though the 'Hawks played well, and could have beaten the Seaforths, with a little more luck around the goal. Craig Watts and Norm Stewart, the two players who were upset about the release of Cherry as coach, have been fired also by manager Davie. The remainder of the club apparently do not hold any ill feelings. On Tuesday night of next week, the Toronto Marlboros are in town at the Community arena seeking to avenge the 6-2 setback at the hands of the Mohawks in their last appearance here on November 21. The Marlies are the club Whitby have to knock off if they hope to move back into second position in Metro Junior "A" league standings. At the moment, the Mohawks trail Broda's crew by two points, but it could be six if the Marlboros were to upset the league-leading Irish in a four-point en- counter last night. Kingston Frontenacs, are the hottest club in the Eastern Pro circuit after winning four games in five nights -- the most outstanding of which was a 9-4 shellacking over the league-leading Kitchener- Waterloo Beavers. The Frontenacs have been waiting for a long while to hand the Beavers that pasting. Kingston are still in second place, four points back of the Beavers, but have two games in hand. I don't think hockey experts expected the Frontenacs to keep up the pace, but with veteran performers like Oval Tessier, the EPHL scoring leader, and Tom McCarthy presently in high gear, it will prove difficult to dis- lodge them from their lofty perch. Sudbury Wolves provide the opposition in the Limestone City tonight, with the Frontenacs moving on to Hull for a go with Sammy Pollock's Hull-Ottawa Canadiens tomorrow afternoon, TOWN AND COUNTRY ... It looks like the County town of Whitby have themselves a tremen- dous Juvenile hockey club after their one-sided 14-2 victory against Lindsay on Thursday night in the Com- munity arena. Starting with Ray Reazin in goal, and much talked-obout rearguard George Ashby on defence to Ron Moore and company on the front lines, the Juveniles have a well-balanced unit .. . Port Hope Ontarios visit the Uxbridge arena on Mon- day night for their first encounter against the Black Hawks. These two clubs met last night in Port Hope but results were not known at time of writing. The Black Hawks Intermediate "'B" club have dropped only one decision to date, that a 7-3 loss to Napanee last Saturday night . , . Bowmanville Shamrocks are idle in the way of home action until Thursday December 21, when the powerful Belleville Pepsis meet the Shamrocks for the first time.
