We watched it -- and we didn't believe | what we saw, In the past 24 hours, it has been emphat- ically stated by others, so this comes as nothing unique or original -- but it truly would have been a shame for anybody else but the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to meet Win- nipeg Blue Bombers this Saturday in the Grey Cup classic. They have proven this season and very em- phatically on Saturday, to be much the best team in the ast. But the horrible fact remains -- Argos could have Won it vuld have t -- not on their ability but onthe chance, the great big opportunity, that came their daily, showing no fewer than 10 members of the Ham- ilton team surrounding and almost smothering Argo kick receiver Lynn Bottoms just about tells the story as well as any one single camera lens could do -- that's just the way it was -- there were anywhere from a half-dozen to 10 clawing Tiger-Cats surrounding any Toronto Argo player who tried to make a move on Saturday -- not every time, but on most of the import- ant occasions. In the overtime, the Trimble troops left no doubt at all as to which was the better team. That's what makes one shudder when you look back and think what could have happened. But it didn't! Now the Argos have announced already that they are making plans to purchase players to fill the gaps that became evident this past season and the Tiger-Cats are practis- ing hard in preparation for Saturday's Grey Cup game agginst the Blue Bombers. It should be a great game -- and keep this in mind -- a star Hamilton player named Géldston was ousted for rough play, the time Tiger- Cats played Blue Bombers before and many said the Joss of this star was a big break for Winnipeg. Last Sat- Widay Goldson was simply brilliant, in a quiet sort of ~@oway.- We think that there's a gent with a secret 'datermination to make amends -- and against Winnipeg Boece. We predict Goldson will be terrific this rday. =~ JOHNNY RYAN, the Oshawa homebrew graduate softhe Oshawa Legion Minor Baseball Association ranks, McCallum Juveniles, etc., who has enjoyed two terrific Seasons with his parent Detroit Tiger farm clubs, is hail- ed-in the current issue of The Sporting News by Detroit Mapager Phil Cavarretta as "the outstanding rookie of the Tiger camp" at St. Petersburg. Young Ryan, still only 22, hit about 350 for Duluth Superiors last year, is hailed as a top flight infielder (either second or third base) and top-notch hitter with the promise of major league status. Fast and skilled, Ryan's greatest praise lies in pilot Cavarretta's observation -- "Ryan has real baseball sense and instinct and he knows how to make the right play'. BRIGHT BITS:- Regina Roughriders didn't set the Western Union afire this fall, competition-wise but their gate receipts were good -- they finished $62,000 in the profit column ... KEN HAMLIN, Toronto Leafs short- stop, has been drafted by Washington Senators for the $25,000 draft price .. . BIG LEAGUE ball clubs are up to their ears this week in drafts, sales and trades and there will be some surprises. White Sox have traded veteran Minnie Minoso to Cardinals for Joe Cunning- ham . INTERCOUNTY Baseball League teams in Western Ontario will have six imports this year -- in- cluding both U.S. players and Canadians brought in from more than 25 miles outside the Intercounty area. They will also have a maximum of only 14 players on a team roster, rather than 20 -- another obvious move to cut down expenses . . . LIVINGSTON'S, Canada's best- known basketball senior team, won 84-69 over Youngs- town Oilers on Saturday night. The former Canada Olympic representatives, will play Oshawa Hawks in an exhibition game, here on Dec. 9...
