Varied Programs Appeal 'To Conant H&S Members =" The Conant*Home and School Association held eight general and eight executive «meetings during the po 1960-61. There is a membership of 60 people. Various programs during the year were educational and inter- esting. The speakers were Dr. Wm. Grant, Mr. L. D. Wilson, Oshawa Toastmasters' Club; Safety Patrol Officer Wm. Tane, Mrs. Earl Hay, Council Vice- President; Miss Irene Bowes, Children's Library. The remain- ing programs included skits put on by the members and teachers, a tour of the Bell Telephoffe Co. and two social evenings. A successful Dessert Night of Cards convened by Mrs. Fred Silver Cross Women Console Others The Remembrance Associa- tion Silver Cross Women of Can- ada Oshawa and district .Chap- ter is composed of mothers and wives who are Silver Cross rec- ipients of the: men who did not return from World Wars one and two. There are 45 chapters across Canada. These women do much work in helping war veterans and their families, also shut-in members unable to at- tend meetings. The Oshawa Chapter this year has helped one burned- out vet- eran and his family. Also gave donations of money to the many children's organizations of Osh- awa; sent. parcels every month to the four adopted veterans at Sunnybrook Hospital; Toronto who have no living relatives. At Fairview Lodge, Whitby, two members visit the aged with a small treat for them, also sent cards an cigarettes to four men in Weston Sanitari- um. Also two members give of their time. when called on to help with the Tuck Shop at Hills- dale Manor, Oshawa. We raise our money by holding Tag-Days, spring teas and a fall bazaar: We also welcome any recipients of the Silver- Cross to our Chapter which meets once a month at Simcoe Hall, Oshawa. Mrs. Joan Smale and "Mrs. Fred Pesarchuk were sent to represent Conant Scieol at the Annual Ontario Federation of Home and School Associations Inc. in Toronto. __ Mothers of Grade 1 pupils were entertained at a Social Tea in September. A treat was given to the children participating for UNICEF in October. A trip to Tcronto was taken by Grade 8 pupils. Class pic- tures of Grade 8 were taken and a picture was presented to each of these students.
