Older people are such an asset to our community, although we often don't realize it enough. Maybe not in the physical aspect, but they are so knowledgeable. Most of them probably didn't get very far in school but have ac- cumulated their knowledge over the years. Senior citizens are our living history. Ask any one of them and they can tell you of some of the hardships and of their way of celebration. Although when they were young, there probably wasn't very much money, they still found ways to have fun. I remember my Grandpa telling some of the pranks they used to play when they were young lads, and of the barn dances and the house parties. Sometimes it is hard to believe that some of them were ever children. I don't think that my Grandpa ever really grew up. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a harmless joke to perform. I loved my Grandpa; he was my best friend all of the time I was growing up. Since he lived with us, I was able to get very close to him. And I treasure the time we had him around. You see, he died last February in his 85th year. I miss him now but am glad that he was well and able to get around, except for the last three months of his life. Don't get me wrong, my Grand- pa wasn't perfect, as no one is. There were times when he seemed to interfere where he~-shouldn't have, and maybe times we should have listened to him when we didn't.
