Township council has ordered bylaw enforcement officer Gerard Gagné to evict from the municipal dump loiterers and "garbage pickers'. 1hese people have become a nuisance by setting fires and drag- ging unsightly garbage all over the township, says Reeve Gaston Patenaude. "You can tell they're garbage pickers just by looking at them, _ Mr. Patenaude notes. Children also play at the déimnp: -- about three miles south of Russell Village -- and the reeve is worried about a health hazard. People found in the dump for any other reason than to drop off a load of trash are subject to a stiff fine. Youthful days What dare the things that I remember : As memory takes me_ back through many a year To youthful days and happy times now past And all that made those carefree days so dear? Wild. geese honking on _ their southward flight, The tang of smoke on autumn's misty morn, Long rows of shining stooks of grain, And golden pumpkin 'mid the tall, green corn. The snapping of the house in winter's depth, And homework round the kit- chen's coal-oil light, Sweet scent of apples on their cellar shelves, And fruit preserved against the winter's might. The train's low whistle on the soft spring night, The Duchess tree in glorious bloom once more, The smell of earth new-turned behind the plough And in the neighbouring bush, the sweet, wild flowers galore. Tall nettles by the old log fence, And fresh-cut hay beneath the noon's hot sun, The deep stone well where cooled the evening's milk, And swimming when the work of day was done. These are some of the things that I remember, When memory takes me back to yesteryear. Such scenes and scents and sights recalled Do oft evoke a reminiscing tear.
