On the 20th we held our single matches which began at 9:00 a.m. and our double matches started on the 21st. Seventeen people (including two females) entered in our single matches with the competition being very (stiff). After playing their first game the winner went on to compete in the "A" division and the less fortunate loser continuing on in the "B" division. This, then ensured the player of playing at least two games. At 6:00 p.m. in the "B" finals we had Bill Cherry and Gord Fleming. The final score was 6-4 for Gord Fleming. Gord was then pre- sented with a take home trophy; with the bronze medallion going to Bill Cherry. Then at 8:00 competing for the "A" finals was Claude Paquette and Daniel Eps. The final score here was 6-3 for Claude. Claude was then presented with the "singles" trophy and a smaller one to take home. His opponent Danny received a silver tennis medal- ion. As previously mentioned we had two female players, Ann Fleming and Helen Sequin. These two held their own competition and played the best out of three games. This series resulted in Ann Fleming winning over Helen Seguin two games to zero. 6-3 and 6-0 For their great showing of skill and effort, we presented a gold tennis medal- lion to Ann, with the silver going to Helen. Doubles matches _ started about 10:00 a.m. on Sunday with a husband and wife's team. We had a strong turn out of eleven teams of two players. Once again, after a team wins they move to the "A" division and the other team then moved on to the "B" division. After the "B" play-offs, Mike and Doug Kelly played against Claude Paquette and Richard Martel for the top team in this division. After shear skill and endurance Claude and Richard came out on top with the final score being 6-1 and 6-0. Play-offs in the "A" division brought together teams showing tremendous -- strength and power. As teams became eliminated, the last two teams to remain in the "A" competition (Continued on Page 8) Russell Review "B"' Division Men's Singles Runner-up Bill Cherry (left) and Winner Gord Fleming.
