MARY'S ANGLICAN CHURCH NEWS St. Mary's A.C.W. would like to extend a warm welcome to any Anglican women of Russell parish who would be interested in joining our group at our coming meetings, March 14 and April 4 at the home of Judy Anderson, Craig Street, Russell. There are many worthy things we would like to do but are unable to, due to lack of numbers to organize things. We are having our usual Plant Sale again this year in conjunction with the Senior Citizen's Tea and Bake Sale on May 7, at the Church Hall. We are also looking for homes for some of our plants until the day of the sale, if some of you could spare a windowsill or two for four or five weeks. Also, we would appreciate any slips or plants you could donate to our cause. Please contact Rita Harrison at 445-5525, or Sharron Appel at 445-2035, concerning the plants. Sunday school for children 6-13 is held at 11:15 a.m. every Sunday with the exception of the second Sunday of the month when the service is at 9:00 a.m. There will also be baby-sitting available for those parents who wish it for all 11:15 services. Please contact Rita Harrison at 445-5525 or Mary Rowsell at 445-5244 for further details. The Coming of Spring Although it is still winter, have you been to your basement to visit your bulbs and your geraniums? What was up and put in bags for a rest period, are ready now to re-pot. Choose vigorous young shoots and side branches that are actively growing. Cut them three to six inches long just below a node (the place on the stem where a leaf or leaf pair arises, and cut off all flowers and flower buds so that the energy of the plant will be directed totally toward root production. Insert your cutting 1-1%"' deep into the mix far enough apart that they barely touch. Press the soil firmly around them making certain the root ends do not remain in air spaces where they will be unable to absorb water. Some gardeners prefer to dip the ends into a hormone powder to speed up rooting process. It is important to keep medium moist but not soaking. Keep post in warm places, not in direct sunlight. The soil may be purchased at any feed store. A clear plastic bag supported by a stick firmly tied around the. pot will maintain humidity and encourage faster rooting. Mrs B.
