Page 4 Wednesday, April 14, 1976 Social Notes Mr. Ernest Burton attended a meeting in Guelph, Ont. recently, regarding sheep judging in Ontario. He was one of a panel of judges which included Mr. Boyd Acres from Bowmanville, Cent- ral Ontario and Mr. Henry Stanley, Western Ontario. This panel will assist classes and give judgement to those interested in improving their herds. Dr. John Burton will be returning to Scotland and England in the near future to confer with some of his college graduates at the University of Glasgow and Reading Research Station, near London. Dr. Burton's father, Ernie, will be going along to visit some relatives and ancestors in the area. Mr. Ernie Burton received re-appointment from the Minis- try of Agriculture-Provincial Livestock Valuator for animals killed by dogs and wolves. He is also Provincial Inspector of Warble Fly of Eastern Ontario. As well, he holds the Provincial Appointment of South Nation Conservation Authority, a con- cern of our area also. Mrs. Asa (Susan) Sullivan spent a week visiting her daughter Doris and family, Rev. Roy Lees of Port Huron, Michigan, U.S.A., and her granddaughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Rodger Trotichaud, Alviston, Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hay spent the March break in Western Canada with their daughter Doris and family, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Droppo, Wistaskiwin, Alberta. Mrs. Larry Nakonezny (Suz- anne) of Toronto, spent a week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Cochrane. Miss Lorrie Letterio of Toronto spent a week with her grandpar- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Cochrane. Mr. Geoff Cochrane of Guelph, Ont. spent a week with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Cochrane. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Alex Graham on the birth of a daughter Nancy Jean, March 20th. A Progressive 4-hand Euchre Party was held at the Russell Arena Hall, sponsored by the Russell Village Women's Instit- ute. All proceeds to go toward the purchase of dishes and cutlery for our Community Hall. The prize winners: High Ladies -- Mrs. Lorne Honey, High Men -- Mr. Ernie Burton. Mrs. Georgina Labelle sold tickets on a hand made cushion. Winner was Mrs. Ernie Burton. All proceeds from these tickets to go towards dishes for the Arena Hall. This was Georgina's second donation handmade by her. Thanks Georgina. The Friday Nite Euchre Club-Legion Hall also donated $100.00 towards the dishes. Thank you. Work has started cutting brush on the South Castor River for new dredging this year. Further information soon. A bus load of Russell Residents visited the Walter Mattice Sugar Camp near Morewood on March 3lst. Much information was learned on the maple syrup industry, taffy and maple sugar. A special thanks to Mrs. Jackie Laviolette, bus driver, and to all those who participated. The Russell Village Women's Institute have set up a committee to look after a fund for the acquisition of dishes for our Community Hall. To date they have approximately $300.00 but a further $400.00 is still needed. Anyone who would like to make a donation towards this very worthwhile cause can contact Miss Edna Curry. Former Russell Girl's son wins $100,000.00. Judd Smoke, 10, son of Clayton Smoke and Mrs. Smoke, formerly Claudette Clout- ier, Peterborough, a Gr. 5 student won the Ontario ticket, in a radio contest. The No. was 25941, series 64. The money will go into trust. A vote of thanks to Mrs. J. Achtereckte, Pres. of Russell W.I. who took other members, Mrs. R. Gamble, Mrs. R. Latour, Mrs. S. Rombough, and Miss E.
