NEWS On the 23rd of February the Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces visited Osgoode High School. The band was very entertaining and is the largest in Canada. This band flies all over the world to perform. We thank them very much for coming to our school. The OTHS curling team did pretty well in the Tiny Herman Bonspiel in mid-February. The second night of the bonspiel OTHS beat Fisher Park 6-2. Laurentian, who is regarded as having one of the best teams, was side-swiped 9-4 by Osgoode. However, Merivale, who is also one of the best, outplayed Osgoode 5-1. The school curling season had been quiet until the week of the 23-27 in February when they lost 3 and tied 1. Earl of March outscored Osgoode 7-3, Sir Robert Borden squeaked by us 7-6, then we tied Confederation 3-3 and then Colonel By thrashed OTHS 11-5. The senior basketball team finished their season with a win and a loss. They beat Colonel By 52-50. What a thriller. The guys never were behind by more than eight points. The time keeper told me that Colonel By was leading by two points and just as Jim Ford shot on the basket, the buzzer went. Because the shot was in the air, the ball was in play and the basket was counted! We were tied 49-49. They had to play three minutes of overtime to win the game. High scorers for OTHS were Scott Herr and Jim Ford with 17 points eack. St. Pius dominated play in our last game and beat us 89-23. OTHS junior girls volleyball team split their last four games. They finished in third place. First they beat Carine Wilson 3 games to 2. Garneau took it over OTHS three games straight by scores of 15-17, 15-4, 15-7. They beat Carine Wilson again 3 games to 1. The scores were 15-13, 11-15, 15-3, 15-12. OTHS played a strong game against their first year opponents. The turning point was the third game when we clobbered them 15-3. In their final game, they lost to a strong Gloucester team. I thank the girls for a very entertaining season. The senior girls volleyball team played their last two games at home to Colonel By and Garneau. Colonel By won three straight scores of 15-5, 15-4, 15-1. The girls lost a close one to Garneau 3 games to 2. The scores were 15-6, 15-11, 2-15, 13-15 and 15-10. The girls really fought hard and their coach, Mr. Potter, was very Satisfied with his teams performance. I just got the latest standings in the house league. Kent leads the pack with 1626, followed by Chimo with 1562, Tequila with 1441 and last year's winners, Michener, with 1388. Garey "Toot"' Ris A. & R. Gregoire EMBRUN, ONTARIO Chev. Olds. auto Itd.
