However, my chat with Mrs. Steele produced far more discoveries than can be mentioned here. Here are some of the highlights. Mrs. Steele fondly remembers her husband's involvement in Lodges during the early years of their marriage. Of special interest to local residents will be Mr. Lloyd Steele's involvement on the School Board and the subsequent upgrading of the Russell Continuation School to Grade A. Many residents of Russell will remember Shirley Steele - one of the first recipients of the Ontario Grade 13 scholarships from Russell Township. Shirley went on to earn an Honours Degree from the University of Toronto, and is now the head dietician of the Richmond Hill Hospital. Son Lincoin, after teaching, became an inspector. Just last winter he was a mediator in the Ottawa Separate School Teachers strike. While raising two fine children and keeping a lovely home, it is no wonder Mrs. Steele had little time for passing fancies.
