9. JAMES EADIE FARM SUPPLY SALES AND SERVICE RUSSELL ONT. 443 2990 The Russell PeeWee softball team coached by Dale Carscadden played 20 games during the summer, winning them all by fairly large scores. They finished first in the Russell-Carleton league and recently won the play-offs, four games straight, to capture the Russell Lions trophy. : RUSSELL MINOR SOFTBALL NEWS On August 10th, they won the Williamsburg PeeWee tournament with the Russell pitcher Greg. McLaren throwing 3 no-hit games while the Russell team were defeating Parkwood Hills 8-0, Morrisburg 15-1 and South Mountain 12-0 in the final game. A total of 52 of the opposition batters struck-out in the three games. On the labour day week-end the team is entered in the Parkwood Hills tournament. The strong pitching and good hitting has made the team one of the strongest PeeWee teams in the Ottawa Valley. A fine effort by everyone concerned. The Russell Squirt team also enjoyed a good season. They finished first in their league but lost out in the final game of the play-off series. A little more depth in experience for some of the boys and they could have easily won it all. The Russell Bantams also finished first in their division losing only one game during league play. They are now awaiting the play-offs to be held on the 6th and 7th of September at Greely. A second Russell PeeWee team, coached by Gerry O'Reilly, also participated in league play this year and although not scoring too many victories, it gave a number of boys between 10 and 13 years old an opportunity to play ball at the competitive level which they might otherwise have missed. You can't always measure success by wins and losses - I hope that every boy who participated, whether on a winning or losing team, feels that he had a lot of fun; that's what is really important. Many thanks to all those who helped make it successful. Jack McLaren, Chairman Lions Recreational Activities. HOCKEY NEWS NEW NAME CONTEST O ] ents The new name of the Russell Minor Hockey team is the "RUSSELL WARRIORS". Edward Honey was the sponsor of our new name and the winner of the $75.00 cash award.
