The South Marysburgh Mirror July_2024 /5 PHlLovey YOUR LIBRARY As we settle into slower days for the summer, the children in your life will be looking for ways to occupy their time. The PEC Library is offering the TD Sum- mer Reading Program which this year offers an interesting chal- lenge - “Let’s Read Our Way to Saskatchewan”. Our sister li- brary is in Montmartre, Sask. It’s 2,760 kilometres to their library and 1 book = 1 km. But don’t despair! We are pooling our resources and all the books read (and reported) by children in the County will be included in the total. Get your kit from the Mil- ford Branch. As well, the Milford Branch continues to offer the “Impressive Readers Club” where you set the number of books you wish to read per visit Summer Reads for Kids and enjoy games and prizes as you progress through your reading. But what to read? The library website is a great place to see what’s new in the collection and | was delighted to see that some of the “new” addi- tions are beloved classics. The first series to catch my eye was “Madeleine” by Ludwig I The one would hope to visit there as we follow her through her days in the city - at the zoo, in the parks and beneath the Eiffel Tower. The illustrations are deftly drawn to portray Madeleine’s adventures with- out any heaviness or exces- sive detail. Madeleine is the youngest and the smallest in her littler coterie but is by far the most adventurous. They are great read aloud for sto- ries for children ages 4-7 and offer lots of opportunity to discuss the pros and cons of some of her behaviour. And of course of Pepito, the son of the Spanish am- bassador, who lives next door, who appears later in the series. We invite you visit our new updated children’s area - chill out in our tent or bean bag chair, play some games or use the AWE station. See you there. first book, in what was to become a series, was pub- lished in 1939 but Made- leine is in every way a most modern little girl. She is intelligent, curious and brave.
