Midpoint of season By Alex Tough Special to HHTW The Alf Oates tourney ended the darts at the Georgetown Legion for the Industrial League half sea- son. The winners were Brad Youmans, Colin Brown, Mike Weston and Dan Abercrombie. They defeated a strong four in Terry Hancock, Beau Beaumont, Mike Pepper and Joe Cairns in the final. Losing semi- finalists were the Squads of eil Olmstead, Doug * Harley, Gord Bottoms and Bruce Capriol and Jeff Richardson, Erwin See, Eric Fuller and Al Gardiner, The tourney was Played in four groups of round-robin play to decide the semi- finalists and a great deal of good humor rent the air. The format allowed Players of different tedms and stan- dards to play together, thereby pitting good and lesser players in teams, and it worked out well. Afterwards, the players moved across the road to the Oddfellows for the usual festive fare and refresh- ments, and some more darts, ¢ Halton League also cleared the halfway mark and renew activity on Jan. 10. Brad Youmans led the individual stats for the night with 18, 12 being bonus points. A 156 and four 140s is good going in anyones’ books. Dave Scutt, Dave McNeilly and Paul Kirby scored 180 each. Brian Ward, Dave Scutt, Al Murphy and Mike Pepper shot double 140s. Newly- wed Patti Olmstead notched the high finish of the night with 135 (we could have fun with that!). Youmans took out 112 and Al Murphy closed 100, Rob Campbell other high bonus scores. Minor Novice Hurricanes had a rough week of hockey leading up to Christmas, losing three Straight games as the flu bug hit the team. Lacking ~ hustle the Hurricanes dropped a 7-0 game to Welland Dec. 18, a 5-1 decision to Brantford on Dec. 20 and then closed out the week with a 7-3 loss to Niagara Falls Dec. 22, With many Players out due to the flu bug or trying to play through it, there weren’t many highlights in the three games.
