Utica Barn Destroyed . By Blaze Children playing with mat- ches were responsible for set- ting a fire that destroyed their father's barn at R. R. 4, Port Perry on Monday. Mrs. Burt Mitchell said she was in the house when a man came to the door and told ber that the barn was on fire. She rushed out of the house im fear that her children may have been trapped inside. But they were safe outside. "It was them that started it. Playing with matches," she said. Winds gusting up to 30 mph from the northwest fan- ned the flames but blew them away from the farmhouse across the road. The barn about 4 miles west of Utica, was beyond saving when firemen arrived They hOsed down a nearby equipment shed containing a five-year-old combine to pre- vent it from catching fire. The barn usually contained cattle but they were grazing peacefully in a field about 50 yards from the blaze. Mrs. Mitchell said the barn was empty except for a canoe and some old grain and straw. It was insured.
