Since all canoeists experi- enced difficulty in getting around to collect sponsorship money AFTER the race, they are being asked to col- i i Annual Meeting Ontario County Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association will be held in the LOWER HALL, NORTHMINSTER UNITED CHURCH 676 Simcoe Street, North, Oshawa at 8:00 p.m. TUESDAY, JUNE 8th, 1971 SPEAKER: Dr. J. Cowle, Senior Physician, Occupational Lung Diseases, Ontario Department of Health. The financial report will be recerved, the election of the Executive Council and other such business, as may property come before the meeting. ~*~ Any interested persons are cordially invited to attend. Canoe The Nonquon June 5th has been a few cases where no sponsorship money was turned in at all. This was not fair to those who worked hard to get sponsors and col- lect afterward. The commit- tee wants to avoid establish- ing an ehtry fee as such, be- cause the sponsorship idea was largely successful, so it has decided to ask each canoe to collect a minimum amount of $10.00 in sponsorship. This will not affect most local entries, almost all of whom | in the last two years have turned in more than the re- commended amount. This decision was made with some mis-givings but it was felt that it would be good to try this on an experimental basis this year. Local organizations are be- ing asked to sponsor a canoe this year as they did last year. All money collected in this way will be divided in two, and half given back in $50.00 lots to the lucky or- ganizations whose names are drawn. So far the Port Perry Senior Citizens and Manches- ter U.C.W. have indicated participation. Organizations planning to take part should advise our secretary, Mrs Labanovich, 985-7087. For those not paddling, ther are many points where the race can be observed with little effort. The brid- ges over the Nonquon at the 10th & 12th concessions and at Seagrave offer good vant- age points, and the dock in Port Perry will be quite ac- tive with arrivals from 10:30 to 1:00 p.m. Prizes will be presented at 4:00 p.m. at the waterfront, and the draw will be made on the 14' Fibreglass Canoe which is being raffled by the Historical Society. People were unanimous in the praise of Mr. Sutherland's expert cooking and almost everyone took advantage of the invitation "to come back as often as you wish." Above is Mr. Sutherland to the right and Mr. Penny, his assistant preparing those wonderful Captain 's Beans. Photo: P.
