This, our first news budget | Very solgr items. for 1971, must start with Senior Citizens 39 Senior Citizens met at the Hall at 8 p.m., Dec. 31st to enjoy the passing of the old year and to welcome the new. The Hall and tables were gaily decorated for the occa- sion. Cards were enjoyed for an hour, when Dr. Rennie ar- rived to entertain with his Banjo along with Mr. Hea- ley on fhe violin and Mr. Baker with the mouth organ. The music was much en- joyed and the singing of "Good Old Songs". . Mr. Baker and Mr. Duff each gave a little "step dance". Several readings and jokes were given which brought much laughter. At 11:30 all 40 sat down to an attractive display of food, fruit, cheese and cake & tea. The New Year was wel- comed with Blowing of horns and a toast with punch. A very happy gathering en joyed by all. Fourteen tables of euchre was enjoyed on Sat. Eve. The Sr. Citizens are treat- ed by the "Club" and the 'Marathon Bridge Committee' to a trip to Toronto and a show on Wed., Jan. 6th. All wil stop for dinner at "Sher wood House", Markham, on the way home. Next Sr. Citizen meeting will be Jan. 13th. Next euchre, Jan, 16th. This week we extend our deepest sympathy to these same people, who after months of severe strain have now been faced with the death on Monday of the hus band and father Mr. Neil McMillan. The busy holiday season is over once more and we won- der how many are really sorry. Here are a few of the New Year's gatherings of local families. This week the Lou Shorts were host and hostess, with the Chas. and Murray Shorts as guests. The Wanamaker of Sea grave were in Port Perry celebrating with the Glenn Wanamakers. Earlier in the week the Mitchell relatives including Mr. and Mrs. Bert Dowson of Seagrave had a Mr. and Mrs. Wilf Sturman had a real bang-up celebra. tion with their whole family on hand.
