DITORIAL PINION Important Duty This year's nomination meeting proved that perhaps, residents of this community are mot as apathetic as was believed. The good turnout and the exciting atmos- phere prevailing throughout the meeting should be a good omen for an interesting election. The numbers and quality of candidates should cer- tainty encourage the ratepayers to come out and cast their ballots for the candidates of their choice. Most of the candidatés are well known residents of the community several of them are complete new- comers, but they are all respected and active members of business and social life in Port Perry. We appeal to the ratepayers to make use of the pri- vilege and take up the challenge before them to make this election as interesting and exciting as the nomina- tions were last Wednesday night. We don't really care how you vote, but for the sake of democracy and this community, please be sure to cast your bailot for the candidates of your choice. Popular Acclamation We are normaily not in favour of acclamation to amy position or municipal council, schoo! boards or other public election made possible by our democratic way of life. However, there is always an exception to the rule and when the present member of Ontario County School Board for Port Perry and the Townships of East Whitby readily accept and extend our congratulations. When Mr. Goode won the election two years ago, he @id quite comfortably and from our personal knowledge of him, we believe he has the right qualifications and per- sonality to fill such a job. A member of the Port Perry Public Schoo! Board for 10 years, he certainty possesses sufficient experience to make himself a valuable member of Ontario County Board of Education. We wish him success during the next two years. Good News For' Cartwright When Mr. Arthur Rowan, member of Northumberiand- Durham County Board of Education announced Cart- wright High School would not be closed before other and better facilities can be found, the good news was school's Commencement Exercises. Better facilities, more frills, etc. will no doubt be found, but it will be difficult, perhaps impossible, to find a school with the fine spirit, dedicated teachers and parents so devotedly interested as all those con- cerned with the old, but pleasant school in Blackstock.
