Mrs. Haugen studied with Juanita LaBarre Symmington "jand for three years attended the aftists' workshop in Tor- onto. She paints under the mame of Myrvang Another artist, Mrs. Sheila Dantzer portrays real things im an abstract fashion. How- ever she goes further into the field of abstraction than does Mrs. Haugen. She refers to herself as a -abstractionist and chooses themes from nature. Mrs. Dantzer, a graduate of the 'Ontario College of Art is also the mother of two children has found time to do some teaching as weil. In contrast to Mrs. Haugen and Mrs. Dantzer, the work be featured and will exhibit two media, sculpture and pain- ting. Unlike the other two art- ists, there is no abstraction in Catherine Christie's work. She is an experimental painter who is a great supporter of amateur artists. A graduate of Vassar, she also attended the Skoweigan, Maine, school of painting and sculpture and studied at the New York museum school in Brooklyn Those who viewed the Mc- Gillivray retrospect exhibition at the "Station" will perhaps recognize Catherine Christie's mame as one of those who was on the committee for that weekend. She was of invalu- able help to Mrs. H.R. Schell in selecting and hanging the paintings for that show Of particular significance, aside from the actual work of these three artists, is the | fact that all three women are real down-to-earth people. In pursuing their talents their only interest is art. They desire |no claim to fame or fortune. All interested people are invited by Whitby Arts In- corporated to view exposure ithree at the "Station" open |to the public each Saturday jand Sunday afternoon from }2 until 5 p.m There is no admission and visitors may enjoy light re- | freshments PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, Oct. 29, 1970 - 45 Blackstock News Last Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wright attended the 90th birthday celebration for Mr. Norman Wright of En- niskillen.
